This is a question that often comes up when you move in your living room: how far should you plan between the sofa and the TV? - For an HD television the recommended distance is approximately 3,9 times the diagonal of the screen. If your TV is 61-82cm, 2-3 meters, 82-102cm, 3-4 meters.
- For a Full HD TV, you just need to multiply the diagonal of your screen by 2,6 times. If your TV is between 61 and 82 cm, the distance will be 1,5 to 2 meters, between 82 and 102 cm, between 2 and 3 meters.
- For an ultra HD TV, the perfect distance is equal to 1,3 times the diagonal of your TV. If your TV is between 61 and 102 cm, the distance will be 1 to 1,5 meters.
- Note that you will have to adapt these distances if your TV has Blu-ray or if you use video games.
The term "small screen" is no longer too valid today. Real small screens are often reserved for rooms such as the kitchen or bedroom. Even if, and it's always good to remember, putting a TV in a bedroom is not the best idea. And then anyway, tablets and other smartphones have gradually replaced the second television screen by being more nomadic and therefore more practical.
To define the right distance to respect between the sofa and the TV, experts advise to take into account the diagonal of the screen. It is therefore necessary to multiply it by 2 or 3 times, according to preferences, in order to obtain the distance. For example, if your TV is 100 cm diagonal, the correct distance is between 2 and 3 meters. Television screen that should be placed at a horizontal viewing angle of 50 degrees.

The distance for a 65 inch TV
It's important to know that all televisions should have the optimum back-up, or viewing, distance and viewing angle so as not to impair your view. So when installing your TV, these two factors should be considered and to get the best and most effective viewing experience is where 40 degrees of your field of view should be occupied by the screen.
You can calculate the ideal setback distance yourself and knowing the dimensions of your TV screen and to obtain it you just need to multiply the size of the screen by 1,2:

The distance for 4k TV
At a time when televisions are getting bigger and bigger, many people wonder about the minimum distance necessary between the TV and the sofa. If stepping back is always important, with 4K things have evolved all the same!

- 1080p : 3x the height
- 4K: 1,3x the height
There is therefore no need to have 6 m of distance for your 4-inch 85K TV since, based on these figures, less than 2 meters is enough.
