According to the Celts, on the night of Samhain an invisible door opened between our world and the spirit world, allowing deceased relatives to visit their living descendants.

But with them, evil spirits of all kinds could invade the human world. And the Celts took many measures to protect themselves and their homes from all these paddy monsters. They gather around a fire with Druid priests, offer sacrifices to pagan gods, wear animal skins to ward off evil spirits, and bring holy fire.

Halloween 2022 date France

According to legend, it all started in ancient times with the Celtic tribes that inhabited the territories of modern England and France. The Celts, always pagans, worshiped the sun god and, according to their beliefs, divided the light year into two parts, summer and winter.

Just on the night of November 1, when Celtic summer gave way to Celtic winter. They then celebrated their main holiday, the beginning of the new year.
