'Young Wallander' Season 3: Will Netflix Renew or Cancel?
– Reviews News
young wanderer It returned for a second season titled Killer's Shadow, which spawned a new story for Netflix's adapted series in February 2022. Will it return for another season? How will season 2 unfold on Netflix? We dive into the numbers and what to expect next.
First debuting on Netflix in September 2020, the Yellow Bird series is based on the detective found in Henning Makell's novels. The series was developed by Ben Harris and saw a 6-episode second season arrive on February 17, 2022.
Given the naming convention of the show's second season, this almost certainly opens up the possibility of the show becoming almost an anthology where we could pick up the story years later with a new case. It almost has to be considering that Season 2 ended pretty well.
Has Netflix renewed season 3 of Young Wallander?
Official Netflix Renewal Status: not yet renewed
Our renewal forecast: probable cancellation
Based on other renewals at Netflix, it will all come down to performance and so far it doesn't look too good.
Netflix measures the performance of its shows using many metrics, including how many people start a show and how many continue to finish it.
As we'll see in a moment, it seems like the second season didn't really have a huge impact, at least on a global level. It performed well in some key northern regions, though, which makes sense given the source material.
Season two hit Netflix on a Thursday, which is when they usually release some of their weaker shows and save Fridays for big releases. There was also very limited promotion for the show with a Season 2 press release and trailer, but beyond that very little momentum.
Another bad sign for the show in our opinion is that it got no coverage on Netflix's two editorial sites, Tudum and Netflix Queue. We often find that a show's coverage level reflects Netflix's confidence in the shows and movies.
How did Young Wallander season 2 perform on Netflix?
Netflix Global Top 10 data reveals that the show failed to break into the top 10. In the first week, it would have had to achieve 11,04 million hours watched to beat The woman in the house opposite the girl at the window and 11.46M to be won jeen-yuhs: a kanye trilogy next week.
The top 10 daily raw data can give us insight into the performance of the show. According to data from FlixPatrol, Season 2 didn't have much impact in English speaking countries and only appeared in the top 10 on US TV for 3 days before dropping out and in the UK for 10 days before giving up.
Unsurprisingly, Young Wallander performed well in Nordic regions like Sweden, Denmark and Norway. it also worked well in some central European countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria.
According to Matthew Belloni of Puck New, performance on YouTube can also indicate performance on Netflix. The trailer for season 2 only got 85 views (as of March 000) compared to 21 for season 708.
Finally, IMDb's MovieMeter can often provide good popularity visibility. It tracks incoming traffic to the show's IMDb, a website that has over 500 million monthly visits. Season 1 managed to become the 21st most popular title on IMDb the week after its release on Netflix. Season 2 seems to have peaked at #56 on the list so far. It's not as dramatic a drop as it could have been, which could mean the viewership is shifted from s1 to 2.
