A woman with bright orange hair is hunted after she was caught on camera smashing a cab window with a cinder block to steal an iPhone and $40 cash in Midtown Manhattan

- The driver had parked to use the bathroom on West 37th Street between Ninth and 10th Avenues
- The brazen robbery comes as New York City Mayor Eric Adams vows to crack down on the city's growing crime
NYPD are looking for a woman with bright orange hair who smashed the window of a yellow cab with a cinder block to steal an iPhone and $40 in cash.
The brazen broad daylight robbery happened Thursday, in midtown Manhattan.
The yellow cab driver had parked his car on West 37th Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues, and left it to go to the bathroom.
Security camera footage showed the woman approaching the car carrying the cinder block.

The woman drove past a parked white vehicle to get to the taxi, then smashed the window
The woman lifted the heavy block above her head before smashing it against the window
The woman then climbed out the window to grab the phone and cash
She threw it at the driver's side window, then climbed through the broken window to steal the phone and the money.
She then fled.
The theft comes amid a dangerous crime spree in the once-safe city.
In February, the number of incidents increased by 60% compared to the same period last year.
The city's latest crime figures show there were 9 incidents last month, up from 138 in February 5 - with double-digit increases in nearly every major category.
There were 32 murders in February, three more than the same month last year.
Several other categories saw spikes, including auto theft, which soared nearly 105%; robbery, which jumped almost 80% over the previous year; robberies, which jumped 56%; a 44% increase in burglaries and a 22% increase in assaults.
Rapes also increased by 35%.
During the month of February, the NYPD reported a 58,7% increase in total crimes
Overall crime in the city is up more than 45% since the same period last year
Mayor Eric Adams said Sunday that soaring crime in New York City has made the Big Apple a "laughing stock" in need of a "wartime general" to tackle the current problem.
Adams, speaking at the NYPD Holy Name Society's annual Communion Mass and Breakfast, condemned the lawlessness across the city.
He blamed petty crime and homelessness as contributing factors to the widespread "dysfunction".
"It's all happening in New York City," Adams said.
“The most important city in the world has become the laughingstock of the world.
“And the dysfunction of our city has reverberated throughout the country. »
