For those interested in a career in broadcasting, there aren't many paths into the business. Student radio, pirate radio, and hospital radio usually appear near the beginning of any DJ's resume. Hospital radio stations are often unlicensed to transmit and have historically relied on wired systems, but since these cannot reach everywhere, they are now more likely to turn to the Internet. [AllanGallop] created the Mini Web Radio for the hospital station in the UK town of Milton Keynes, a compact, battery-powered single-user radio receiver that can pick up those tunes anywhere with a wireless network connection.
Inside the carefully designed 3D printed box, the hardware is quite simple, a WeMos ESP32 board and a MAX98357A I2S digital amplifier module, all powered by an 18650 cell. headset, that's all that's needed for the user interface. The software contains code for Arduino and Platform.io and is configured as you would expect through a web interface. Everything can be found in a handy GitHub repository if you want to create one yourself. Meanwhile, it's especially nice as a Hackaday scribe to pitch a project that has its roots in your own hackerspace, in this case Milton Keynes Makerspace.
Thank you [Cid] for the tip!
