1976 in Dublin: Paul David Hewson, David Howell Evans, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. form U2. A band that would go on to become one of the most successful bands in music history. Now the four Irish musicians need to get a Netflix series.
Editor's recommendation
It is not yet known if the members of U2 themselves will be involved in the series and there is no precise information on the plot either.
It could be a biopic
It will be produced by JJ Abrams, under the aegis of his production company Bad Robot. It has recently produced action films such as “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” or “Star Trek”. Anthony McCarten, who previously penned the biopic Queen Bohemian Rhapsody, penned the screenplay. This cast suggests that the U2 series could also be a cinematic biography.
As the series is still in an early stage of development, it is not yet known when it will be released. Irish website Joe.ie suggested producers could aim for completion in 2026 to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary.
“Rattle and Hum” reviewed:
There have already been cinematic encounters with the group, for example the Irish comedy “Killing Bono” or the documentary “From the Sky Down” on the production of the U2 album “Achtung, Baby”. There is also the 1988 concert film "Rattle and Hum" and other short documentaries. However, a full-scale series dealing with the history of musicians does not yet exist.
But not only new cinematic material from U2 awaits us, something could also happen musically soon: last year, guitarist The Edge announced that work on new material had already begun. More recently, the Irish released the title 'Your Song Saved My Life' for the animated film 'Sing 2'.
