Shit Group: Woodstock 99 has set an August 2022 release date on Netflix. The new documentary seeks to understand exactly what happened at the infamous festival that has been plagued by one problem after another.
The story of Woodstock '99 is well known to many, especially those who were there and can now relive it with the now titled documentary Shit Group: Woodstock 99 will arrive on Netflix globally on August 2, 2022.
Like many festivals over the years, its ambitions were high, but the execution was poor. It was based on the 1969 Woodstock, which became a historic hit and had the range to rival it. Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, The Chemical Brothers, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Jewel, Everlast and the Dave Matthews Band were all on the programme.
Fires, vandalism, environmental disasters, violence, sexual assaults, looting and vandalism caused many to view the event as a disaster.
Netflix's Woodstock '99 documentary was first revealed in September 2020 with some brief summaries of what to expect.
The documentary comes from the producers of Netflix Don't fuck with cats Yes Fear City: New York Vs. The Mafia, a production company called Raw.
Deadline reported at the time that:
“The series will delve into the culture that created Woodstock '99 and tell the real story behind how 'three days of peace, love and music' caught fire. Featuring never-before-seen archival footage and intimate testimonies from people behind the scenes, on stage and in the crowd, the series aims to tell the untold story of a defining musical moment that shaped the cultural landscape for a generation. »
Netflix has provided a brief summary of what we can expect from the documentary and some preview images:
“Woodstock 1969 promised peace and music, but its revival in 1999 brought days of fury, rioting and real damage. Why did it go so terribly wrong?
The documentary will have a TV-MA rating or an 18 rating in the UK issued by the BBFC. This rating is given due to the sexual violence documented throughout the film.
The famous event has already been covered. HBO clearly outperformed Netflix with its entry Woodstock 99: Peace, Love and Rage which was released in 2021 and is available on HBO Max right now.
