– Reviews News
Welcome to your weekly recap of the biggest stories of Netflix's top 10 hourly figures for the week ending December 4, 2022.
Netflix updates its Top 10 Stats page every week with 40 new figures per hour for the best movies and shows from the last 7 days. If you want to easily browse the top 10 hourly data, visit our tool.
Note: In this report on Netflix hours watched from November 28 to December 4, 2022, we will use “Full View Equivalent” or CVE, expressed in millions. This means that we divide the hours watched announced by Netflix by the duration of the films or series. It allows better comparisons between films and series, but it is not an audience measurement. This is the minimum number of views if they were all sold out from the first to the last second of the movie or season. However, in its last letter to shareholders, Netflix used the CVE metric to talk about The Gray Man, so there's value in that metric, however flawed.
1. Wednesday he is huge. Like huge huge.
Last week we wondered if Wednesday he could do even better in his second week after a wild start, and the answer was a resounding yes. The series added 60 million CVE in its second week. With 111,5 million CVE after 12 days, it is already the biggest series on Netflix, but its run will continue and it will be dethroned. squid game?
What Wednesday As you approach the dreaded third week, you might lose some strength and not reach the level of squid game after 28 days. I estimate that it will eventually generate around 180 million CVE, but nothing has been normal in this series since its release, so it could continue to surprise.
of them. Troll It's a monster
44,2 million CVE in its first four days. That's what Troll made after its launch last Thursday. It's the biggest launch of an international film that opens on a Thursday, nearly tripling the number of stray bullet 2 the former record holder from a few weeks ago.
It's also the biggest launch of any movie released on a Thursday, surpassing “Falling for Christmas” starring Lindsay Lohan (which is still holding up surprisingly well this week). Troll is expected to take the top spot in the international movie rankings as early as next week. Freak.
3. way of the fireflies emits no light in the darkness of winter
When Netflix announced that Season 2 of way of the fireflies It would also be the last, I was a little surprised since the first season was apparently a hit, with 49 million accounts testing it in its first 28 days according to Netflix.
It also made very decent numbers in the US based on Nielsen numbers. So what happened to season 2? The new season opened with 3,8 million CVE in three days, which marked one of the worst opens in my data set for Season 2.
The obvious comparison here is with sweet magnoliaswhich points to the same demo but started better, probably costs less, and has been renewed for a third season.
Four. Scrooge does not (yet) find its audience
The animated film Scrooge is not making its audience so far, registering 4,9 million CVEs in its first three days. It's on the low side of Netflix animated movies released in 2022 so far, but it beat the infamous marmaduke.
But let's look on the bright side: it appeared in the rankings, which is a good thing considering Netflix's latest decisions regarding animated films.
As Christmas approaches, this could turn heads for weeks to come. marmadukefor example, it performed well in the weeks following its release.
5. the midnight club canceled after one season
It's been a tough week for Netflix fans of Mike Flanagan's work.
First we learned that Mike Flanagan had transferred his global contract to Amazon Prime Video, then we learned that the midnight club it was canceled after one season.
In truth, the two pieces of information weren't hard to predict, as Mike Flanagan has been increasingly critical of Netflix's stance on physical media and excessive releases in recent months.
As the midnight clubseeing how the new American Netflix series has fared so far was all it took for it not to be renewed.
When it comes to CVEs, you don't want to be nestled between the imperfect Yes Partner follow-up Since they both cancel.
Interestingly, the limit number to renew seems to hover around 30 million CVEs after 28 days, but that's just one of the metrics Netflix uses to make this kind of decision.
Mike Flanagan still has a limited series to hit Netflix in 2023, and then he'll try his hand at Amazon Prime Video.
