Note: In this Netflix Watch Hours report for October 3-9, 2022, we'll use "Equivalent Complete Views" or CVE, expressed in millions. This means that we divide the hours of viewing announced by Netflix by the duration of the broadcast of the films or series. It allows better comparisons between films and series, but it is not an audience measurement. This is the minimum number of views if they were all sold out from the first to the last second of the movie or season.
1. DAHMER is (still) a monster.
After 19 days of availability, DAHMER is now the second-largest English-language show on Netflix based on hours watched during its release period, with over 700 million hours watched.
He's got a long way to go stranger things 4 (and spoiler alert: it won't), but we can't go on to compare the two and Netflix's other big shows during their release period using our CVE metric.
Here's how it goes:
In this graph, we can see the two trajectories, whether they are new or recurring series.
Returning series tend to have more viewing hours in advance and slowly erode over time, while new series are launched quite low and soar in the second week and beyond. -of the.
So now DAHMER could still catch up stranger things 4 using the CVE metric, but could ultimately end up a little short, around the 95 million CVE mark.
of them. the midnight club it failed on its first weekend.
A new Mike Flanagan series is always something to watch, but with the midnight clubhe withdrew (although there are signs of recovery in week 2).
With just 2,1 million CVEs in three days, it's one of the worst launches for a new Netflix series, just above cowboy bebop Yes New cherry flavor.but only half of what Midnight Mass done a year ago.
As noted above, its pace is already showing signs of picking up in its second week, and it will have to if a second season is ordered.
3. the luckiest girl in the world got off to a good start.
The new thriller starring Mila Kunis got off to a good start in its opening weekend on Netflix.
It earned a CVE of 22,5 million in its opening weekend. It's not a blockbuster by Netflix standards, but it fits in comfortably with other Netflix movies without an A-list star around the 20M CVE mark, and in doing so it likely pulled the numbers that he proposes to do.
On that note, Mr. Harrigan's phone (the new Ryan Murphy/Blumhouse Stephen King adaptation) also did well with 20M CVE in its first 5 days. This puts the film on par with Freida Pint's release. Intrusion, which was released for Halloween 2021 (19,7 million CVE).
4. Is the United States preparing for the international series?
One of Netflix's big bets is to make its series travel internationally and in particular to the United States, a territory that generally does not like dubbed series very much.
Of course, squid game, Lupine, Yes money theft did very well in the United States, but this week two international series are in the American Top 10.
The first is The company, which we talked about last week and high tidethe Polish series which was the main European premiere last week.
With this help from the American territory, the series achieved the best launch of all new European series launched on a Wednesday with 10,5 million CVE.
It's too early to tell if this trend will continue, but it's certainly encouraging from Netflix's perspective, as international series are generally cheaper to produce. the next one to see will be 1899 German creators of Dark. Netflix is betting big on this.
