Why 'Dynasty' Won't Return for Season 6 on Netflix
– Reviews News
The fifth and final season of Dynasty has arrived on Netflix globally, including the United States, but won't be returning for a season 6 despite being a popular part of Netflix's soap opera lineup. Here's the background on why Dynasty won't be returning, as well as when we expect the series to finally leave Netflix.
Netflix owns worldwide distribution rights to Dynasty, and the show is marketed and labeled as a Netflix Original outside of the United States. This has been the case since the show launched in 2017. At the time, Netflix received weekly episodes of the show internationally, although it eventually upgraded to a full season after a few seasons. Netflix US received the show through its output deal with the network that closed in 2019.
The show, for those unaware, is the reboot of the soap opera set in high society Atlanta, where staying rich means doing the dirty work for two wealthy families caught in an outrageous feud for power, prestige , and love.
Although not Netflix's most popular series, every new season since 2020 has appeared in the top 10 on Netflix TV, and according to data from FlixPatrol, it's been doing particularly well in mainland Europe.
Because it was Dynasty canceled?
While season 1 of Dynasty averaged one million viewers, it dropped below 400 by season five.
So while the show never garnered impressive numbers for The CW, according to many network titles, international distribution and Netflix in the United States with such shows helped renewals.
That all changed recently, as The CW's network sale to Nexstar represents a shift in strategy. The previous owners were Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global. This shift in strategy is to shift to different types of programming primarily to cater to older audiences.
This led to the cancellation of a large number of shows, many of which arrived on Netflix. titles like In darkness, Roswell, New Mexico, FlashYes Riverdale they were either canceled or renewed for a final season. This shocks Netflix, with The CW's slate coming to Netflix in 2023 only including at least three titles compared to a dozen in 2022.
Netflix might have been able to negotiate to continue with Dynasty, but since the show was in its fifth season and didn't pull in huge numbers, it's done for good.
According to Netflix Life, "CBS Studios, the production company behind the series, has given no indication that the series will be saved."
When Dynasty Leaving Netflix?
