Another new report says COVID lockdowns in China are threatening MacBook supply and could see shipments affected.
According to a new paid Digitimes report:
Lockdown extensions in Kunshan and Shanghai, China, are expected to impact Apple's second-quarter MacBook shipments as delivery of its ODM laptop to the US-based vendor slows, vendors engaged say in the supply chain.
Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated the government's zero-tolerance approach to COVID and said on Wednesday that the pandemic remains very serious and work prevention and control measures cannot be relaxed.
Supply chain insider Ming-Chi Kuo said on Wednesday that Apple is starting to see supply challenges for its MacBook Pro (2021), moving to 3-5 week shipping times. Sole supplier Quanta has been hit by the shutdowns in Shanghai and Kunshan, with several Quanta, Pegatron and Luxshare Precision factories forced to suspend operations. Factories affected also included those that made the iPhone SE, however, Kuo says the impact here is much less severe as Apple has plenty of inventory due to "lackluster" demand for its new iPhone.
