The hackers released credible screenshots to back up reports of an Okta security breach. Otka provides single sign-on user authentication tools in the enterprise sector, with a wide range of blue-chip customers. Its tools are available for Mac and iOS, as well as Windows and Android.
Hacking group LAPSUS$, known for ransomware attacks, says it targets Otka users…
An Okta compromise is potentially a big deal for business customers because it provides single sign-on access to devices and services, so it could allow attackers very important access to corporate data.
Okta is a secure identity cloud that connects all your apps, logins, and devices into a unified digital fabric. With Okta, you're up and running from day one, with every app and program you use to work instantly available. Whether you're on your desk or on the go, Okta seamlessly connects you to everything you need.
Reuter reports.
Authentication service provider Okta Inc is investigating a digital breach report, the company said Tuesday, after hackers released screenshots showing what they claimed to be its internal environment.
An Okta hack could have major consequences as thousands of other businesses rely on the San Francisco-based company to manage access to their own networks and applications.
Independent security experts say the evidence provided is strong.
"I really believe it's believable," independent security researcher Bill Demirkapi said, citing footage of what appeared to be Okta's internal tickets and its internal chat on the Slack messaging app.
Dan Tentler, the founder of cybersecurity consultancy Phobos Group, said he too believed the breach was real and urged Okta customers to be "very vigilant at this time".
Okta itself has confirmed a security breach, which it says resulted from the compromise of a third-party support engineer's account. He says it happened in January and was "contained". However, it is concerning that the company does not appear to have informed customers at the time, and no details are yet available on the exact data accessed.
