The second timeline is set in 2026, when the dreaded T virus has infected over 6 billion people and animals worldwide, leaving only 15 million healthy humans to face this new reality.

As expected, the advancement of the "Resident Evil" series has left several Easter eggs that reference the video games on which its story is based and also some details that could be important for the development of its plot in the future. Below we show you the most important ones.
Netflix's 'Resident Evil' Trailer Revealed One Of Its Villains
The trailer opens with sisters Billie and Jade Wesker as they drive with their father to their new home. The fans of video games Capcom must have recognized the identity of the man just by knowing the last name of the girls.
The protagonists' father is Albert Wesker, who works for the Umbrella Corporation and is the antagonist of the video games. In the series, it seems that he also works for this company, but he doesn't try to hide it.
'resident evil' and Umbrella Corporation
In the Netflix series, the Umbrella Corporation doesn't seem to hide its existence from the world, as during the family's trip its name pops up all over New Raccoon City.
In fact, the Umbrella Corporation makes no bones about it, because on the family's trip, their logo can be seen all over the town of New Raccoon. The Umbrella Corporation logo appears on a bottle of water that a woman practicing yoga drinks, in the grass and elsewhere.
In video games, this company is responsible for the epidemic of the virus T, which began with the zombie apocalypse in the world. His intention was supposed to contribute to modern medicine, but his experiments went astray.
Apparently, the Umbrella Corporation has decided to hide in plain sight, turning New Raccoon City into what appears to be a modern-day utopia, but behind all that facade, their true intentions surely lurk.
The T virus in 'resident evil'
The preview shows how Albert experiments with rats and injects one of them with a substance labeled "Billie". When you look at your test reaction under the microscope, you see the T virus in action for the first time, destroying cells in its path.
Apparently in the series the antagonist will not have the objective of creating the perfect human being as in the video games, but will try to get the cure to save his daughter Billie. Although it's also possible that something present in her daughters' blood is the key to the Umbrella Corporation's plans.
The hidden trailer in the 'Resident Evil' trailer
When Albert looks through the microscope, one of the cells is a QR code which, when scanned, reveals a hidden trailer. This second trailer, which hasn't been widely released, reveals the main cause of the outbreak, as well as some of the monsters.
The video reveals that the outbreak stems from a new drug Wesker was developing for the Umbrella Corporation, which was supposed to be an antidepressant with the T-Virus as its main ingredient. In the series, this drug is represented by her pet, a cute bear named Joy.
According to 'ComicBook.com', Andrew Dabb, the showrunner of the series, assured that the new Netflix production is part of the video game canon. This is why the series raises certain questions, such as whether Wesker is still alive and his real reason for using such a dangerous virus in his work.
It's possible Albert had the best intentions with his drug, since it involves his teenage daughters, but it's also possible he had a hidden plan all along.
