We all get homesick from time to time and want to relive some of the experiences that made us happy and brought us closer to friends and family.
Many of us grew up playing some of the video games that today's kids think of as old, many of which no longer work on modern systems.
But that doesn't necessarily mean you can't do it if you really want to. That said, backwards compatibility isn't always the faithful friend we thought it would be.
That's why Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media, Wicked Witch Software and the folks at Xbox Game Studios have gone above and beyond and brought us a remastered version.
Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition was released in 2019 and fans were beyond grateful for the rebirth of this beloved old man.
However, the new version also had horrible bugs which, although fully fixable, ruin the gaming experience.
For example, Age of Empires players had issues with the error loading the channel file when trying to launch the title.
Another problem that drives gamers crazy is the DirectDraw error. This error message, although often encountered in video games, can also manifest itself in programs running Microsoft DirectX.
The error can appear at any time during gameplay (or while using the software), but you will most likely see it on startup.
So how to solve this problem? We have prepared a guide for you and reading it will make you enjoy your favorite game again.
How can I fix the Age of Empires 2 DirectDraw error?
1. Restart your PC
- Press the Start button.
- Click the power button and select Restart.
2. Install the latest version of DirectX
To update your version of DirectX, you just need to go to the official Microsoft website and download the DirectX End-User Runtime web installer.
This tool will install a number of legacy DirectX SDK runtime libraries for certain games that use D3DX9, D3DX10, D3DX11, XAudio 2.7 and XInput 1.3, XACT and/or Managed DirectX 1.1.
But you can also get the latest versions of DirectX, like 12, if that's what you need to get everything working properly.
Just follow the steps and you will surely achieve what you planned to do in the first place.
Keep in mind that DirectX updates are also delivered through Windows Updates, so be sure to keep your operating system up to date as well. You can do it like this:
- Press Windows + I to access Settings.
- Select the Windows Updates tab and click Install All.
- If there are no updates queued for installation, press the Check for Updates button.
3. Upgrade your GPU
- Press the Windows key, search for Device Manager and click Open.
- Expand Display Adapters, right-click on your GPU and select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
Do you also want to be able to enjoy quality games without constantly worrying about crashes, lags or crashes by keeping all your drivers up-to-date and bug-free easily?
It is true that manual checks are sometimes difficult to perform, so we recommend using an automatic wizard that will check for new driver versions every day.
If you are a beginner, you don't have to worry! DriverFix is smart, simple, attractive and its user interface was created to make your life easier.
