The projects will be developed in association with The Coalition, the game studio behind the franchise.
A brief history of the franchise video games : Weaponry of war
If you are a complete beginner to Weaponry of warhere's a quick rundown of what you need to know about the long-running franchise, one of Xbox's biggest franchises behind hate Yes Strength.
The franchise of video games debuted in 2006 with Epic Games developing the third-person shooter action game with Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson behind the title.
After several entries, Microsoft finally acquired the game series in 2014 and founded a new development studio, The Coalition, to work on the game series ever since.
So far, five main games have been developed in the game franchise, with three spinoffs, including judgment triggers war, Pop Gears! Yes gear tactics.
Known for its awe-inspiring settings, the game franchise is set on the planet Sera and sees the battle between humanity and the reptilian hominids known as the Locust Horde.
The game primarily follows Marcus Fenix, a soldier in the Coalition of Orderly Governments.
There are many excellent summaries of the entire history of the game franchise on the Pendulum Wars, the Locust Swarm, Emergence Day, and the events of the game, but we picked this one from TGN. It's worth watching to get a sense of the games lore and backstory.
This isn't the first time Gears of War has gone live-action.
It's not the first time we've almost seen Weaponry of war arrives on our screens with an adaptation in development from 2010.
The film's initial development was done at New Line with Temple Hill.
The Wrap reported in 2013 that Scott Stuber (now head of movies at Netflix) had won the battle to produce the film under the Bluegrass Films banner.
In 2016, Universal Pictures opted for the rights to make a Weaponry of war film. At the time, Scott Stuber was working at Universal and reportedly served as a producer on the project alongside Dylan Clark (Planet of the Apes, Forget it).
In 2017, Universal recruited Shane Salerno to write the screenplay, though he was ultimately unsuccessful. Then in 2018, F. Scott Frazier was hired to write the film by Universal, although the option rights eventually expired.
Eventually, the option rights expired, and as you know by now, Netflix is next in line to try and adapt the title.
In a ScreenRant interview, Rod Fergusson told the outlet what he expects from an adaptation saying:
“Between us, me, the producers and the Universal studio. Basically, I wanted it to be really easy for them to be creative in this space. Just like when I work with the author of the book or the comic, I try to find a negative space where they can play and not feel obligated. [Not] like they're going to redefine my tradition, or like that's going to restrict them too much. What I said to Universal and Dylan Clark Productions was, "Make a good movie first, then make a Gears movie." »
Does Dave Bautista play in Gears of War on Netflix?
No, at least not yet.
Many were rightly confused and excited when Dave Bautista (who has starred in several Netflix projects including Glass onion: a tale at loggerheads Yes army of the dead) posted that he "can't make it any easier" with a promo video of himself wearing a Gears of War outfit.
I can't make this any easier. @gearsofwar @netflix #marcusfenix #GearsofWar pic.twitter.com/SzDpiT2rNA
— Dave Bautista (@DaveBautista) November 10, 2022
Some have connected the dots that this meant Bautista was cast in the movie and/or the animated series, but that's not yet the case. The video seen in the Tweet is promotional for Gears 5, released in September 2019, where you can unlock Dave as a playable character in the game.
Naturally, with the hashtag, Bautista thinks he's perfect for the role of Marcus Fenix and naturally has the build to play the role, so it's a waiting game.
This is just one of many adaptations of video games in preparation at Netflix. Other excellent adaptations of obtaining IP addresses include assassin's creed, bioshock, Sonique, horizon, Yes Grave robber.
