Wanna Marchi: Italian artist Telecon (Wanna) is a documentary directed by Nicholas Prosatore Yes Alessandro Garramone.
Four surreal chapters on home shopping in Italy and its queen, Wanna Marchi, who sold anything to anyone, anyhow. A whole feminine show.
The documentary already tells us clearly: “to understand its history, you have to understand Italy in the early eighties”. This gives us: a portrait of that Italy with a private television at every point and a constant need for something supposedly rare: money. From there to someone emerging to sell “anything” was a step and many have taken it, but only one could be the best.
Wanna Marchi: Italy's Teleswindler is a fun documentary that of course features the presence of this lady who didn't care to sell a pen, a television or straight up rip off, it didn't matter. Television does the rest and that's where the documentary "shines" because it can't do less: a very "Italian-style" show of people screaming, telemarketers, over-the-top performances...it's the Italy, we love it and let's not forget that the Renaissance was born there and Dante, no matter how (precisely) Dantesque things happened in the eighties.
Very funny and carefree, in another true crime far from those of recent weeks. Here again as it happens to us with The Bling Rings destroy Hollywood.
The world of crime, in cinema too, has given rise to great comedies and comedies are usually dependent on the actors and here we have another inspired protagonist who gives us (or rather sells us) the well-prepared documentary.
Who knows what the Medici would think of all this.
