Ubisoft Scalar is the new cloud computing technology to 'create even bigger worlds'
– Reviews News
Ubisoft presented a new project: Ubisoft Scalar.
Ubisoft announced a new cloud computing project called Ubisoft Scalar, which aims to be the foundation for even bigger game worlds. Scalar is being developed by Ubisoft's office in Stockholm, where a is also in production new IP who will use this technology.
Featured with a teaser trailer, Scalar will “ building gigantic game worlds to a dimension far beyond anything we've ever seen"and will support"a large number of assets, simulations, artificial intelligence and entity-actors"
To the press, Ubisoft said that "games that will use Ubisoft Scalar can use a virtually infinite amount of computing power, which can therefore allow them to simulate everything from disproportionately large virtual worlds to incredibly detailed simulations that would not otherwise be possible"
The press release continues: By independently placing microservices in the cloud, Ubisoft Scalar allows developers to upgrade and improve one service without impacting others, or even add new features and components to a game without interrupting game sessions. The goal is to remove technical limitations to favor developers and allow them to focus on creativity and designing experiences never seen before."
Cloud computing is nothing new in the industry: 7 years ago at E3 2015 there was a lot of talk of physics-based destruction in Repression 3; an impressive presentation which however did not yield the same results once the game was released.
What do you think of this technology and its use?
