Turnstile revealed on Friday afternoon that guitarist and co-founder Brady Ebert was no longer a member of the band. The announcement was made via the band's Instagram story and follows months of speculation following Ebert's prolonged absence from their live set.
To announce the news, the band posted a message that read, “Turnstile and guitarist Brady Ebert are parting ways. We are deeply grateful for the time we spent together. Our love for him continues and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward. Love, Tourniquet. No further details were provided, but this gives a definitive answer to fans who noted Ebert's exclusion during the early summer's "Turnstile Love Connection Tour."
A recording in March 2022 for Jimmy Kimmel Live! appears to be Ebert's last public appearance with the band, when they performed four songs including the single "Mystery"; he also performed with the band for NPR's Tiny Desk (Home) concert series, which was filmed in January 2022.
According to Lambgoat, Turnstile drummer Daniel Fang filed a peace order against Ebert on August 4 that "would restrain Ebert from abusing, contacting, or approaching Fang's home or employment." However, the order was revoked in a final ruling on August 11, as there was apparently insufficient evidence to enforce it.
Ebert's interim replacement has been Take Offense's Greg Cerwonka, who played lead guitar for the majority of Turnstile dates in 2022 as well as major bookings at Coachella, Lollapalooza and Tonight's show in May. There has been no confirmation from the band or Cerwonka as to whether his position is now permanent, but that will likely be determined before the band embarks on its fall 2022 North American tour in October. No matter their lineup, the band will be sure to have company for the rest of the year as they'll be supported by Snail Mail and JPEGMAFIA on their headlining dates, and find time to connect with Deftones mid-tour. for their annual Dia de Los Deftones festival in November. Ebert co-founded the Baltimore-based hardcore band with Brendan Yates, Franz Lyons and Daniel Fang in 2010, and has appeared on all three of the band's albums, including 2018's. Space-time and 2021 glow on. Their latest LP landed at No. 4 on Result50 best albums of 2021 and No. 3 on the list of the 30 best metal and hard rock albums of 2021, while Turnstile overall won the Result distinction of the Heavy Band of the year 2021.
