Producer Ryan Murphy's miniseries The Teaser eschews a traditional teaser and instead features an open house video starring Jennifer Coolidge. Does this spark your interest in the series?
It doesn't always have to be a classic teaser or trailer to promote a series. With the mini-series The Watcher, Netflix and the team of Ryan Murphy have opted for an unusual variant. Because in just over three minutes, we see real estate agent Karen Calhoun (Jennifer Coolidge, 2 Broke Girls, The White Lotus) show the public around 657 Boulevard. The whole thing should look as real as possible, but of course there are some dark moments. For example, if you could accommodate a whole person in the freight elevator if necessary, or if the curtains remain closed to avoid prying eyes from neighbors...
The new series format comes from Murphy and Ian Brennan (Ratched, The Politician) and is set to land on Netflix in the fall. The cast includes Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire) and Naomi Watts (Gypsy, soon to be in Feud) as married couple Nora and Dean Brannock. The couple have just purchased their dream home in the idyllic suburb of Westfield, New Jersey, but after investing all of their savings in the home, they find the neighborhood unattractive. There's a strange old woman named Pearl (Mia Farrow) and her brother Jasper (Terry Kinney). The latter sneaks into the house of the new neighbors and hides in the freight elevator. Realtor Karen, who has known Nora for some time, makes them feel unwelcome. Meanwhile, nosy neighbors Mitch (Richard Kind) and Mo (Margo Martindale) break property lines.
The frosty reception quickly turns to hell when letters from someone known as "The Watcher" surface, pushing the Brannocks to their limits. Plus, the neighborhood's dark secrets are revealed. This is all based on a true story.
Here's a taste of The Watcher:
