After successfully adapting League of Legends, Castlevania et The witcherNetflix has already decided what will be the next video game on its list: neither more nor less than…Tekken? This weekend, the platform of Streaming showed off the first trailer for its upcoming anime series based on Bandai Namco's hit fighting franchise.
Tekken: Bloodline will follow the adventures of fighter Jin Kazama. After his first appearance in the Tekken 3 of the year 97, Jin wants to avenge the death of his mother Jun at the hands of a demon (Ogre, who also appeared in the Tekken 3), and the only way to get it is to be trained by his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima. The fans of video games know that Heihachi is truly the biggest villain in the entire franchise, but it looks like good ol' Heihachi is willing to help his grandson with some beatings.
Jin's path of revenge will eventually lead him to the Tournament of iron fist kingthe competition on which the whole saga is based Tekken. It is in this tournament that he will rub shoulders with countless characters from video games, like King, Paul Phoenix, Leroy Smith or Jin's own father, Kazuya Mishima.
The 1994 game Tekken was one of the first fighting games to use 3D animation, and subsequent titles allowed the camera to be zoomed in and out to create the feel of true 3D environments instead of moving vertically across the screen . The trailer manages to capture the essence of the games with those mid-combat camera twists.
Just like the fighting saga did Deadly fight, Tekken has also tried its luck outside the video games several times during its 28-year history. The first anime was a 1998 series which was split into two parts and was called Tekken: the movie, which told of Kazuya's desire for revenge against Heihachi and was directed by Kunihisa Sugishima. In 2011, the animated film was released Tekken: Blood Revenge, which served as an alternate version of the events of Tekken 5 (2005) et Tekken 6 (2007). And of course, there's also the 2009 live-action adaptation and its 2014 sequel called Kazuya's Revenge.
