Steely Dan no longer has an opening act booked for his upcoming gig at St. Joseph's Health Amphitheater in Lakeview.
The jazz rock band is scheduled to perform at St. Joe's Amp in Syracuse on Thursday, June 23. Aimee Mann was scheduled to open the show at 19:30 p.m., but was quietly removed from Live Nation's ticketing site.
"Nobody really knows why," Mann wrote on Instagram Wednesday, "but it seems like they thought their audience wouldn't like a singer-songwriter? »
“Actually, Steely Dan is the only band that I love 100%, wholeheartedly, so it really sucks,” she added.
Mann is an Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter who rose to fame with the new wave group 'Til Tuesday, reaching the top 10 with "Voices Carry" in 1985. She has won two Grammy Awards for her solo work, which includes the songs “Save Me” and “Wise Up” from the 1999 film “Magnolia”.
Mann was hired to replace Steve Winwood opening for Steely Dan last month after the "Higher Love" singer said he was "no longer able to appear due to unforeseen circumstances." It's unclear if Mann will be replaced or if Steely Dan will continue without an opening act.
No opening act is also listed for Steely Dan's concerts on June 21 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs) and July 3 at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Snarky Puppy is expected to support earlier tour dates, but not after June 19.
Mann and the Donald Fagen-fronted band became trending topics on social media Wednesday and Thursday as fans and fellow artists weighed in.
“Aimee opened for us, and I’m so happy to say our audience loved this s—. I was so honored that she did,” Jason Isbell tweeted. “My wife (Amanda Shires) hates Steely Dan. I discussed it with Aimee Mann, who really likes Steely Dan. Now I will never try to convince my wife that Steely Dan is good again.
