I don't like hearing this any more than you do, but next year Sky Ferreira's magnificent debut album At night, my time will be 10 years old. Even more distressing than the passage of time: Ferreira always did not follow through, although he teased the imminent release of a second album titled Masochism since 2015.
Ferreira seemed to finally be kicking off a rollout in 2019 with the release of his Lynch epic "Downhill Lullaby." But that single was also accompanied by a Pitchfork feature in which Ferreira explained his painfully inefficient creative process, which is, in the words of writer Camille Dodero, “akin to playing charades blindfolded while riding a dog. , and everyone guesses with kazoos”. with Ferreira trying to explain the sounds in her head to the musicians and producers around her. At the time, the implication was that the album was finished and "Downhill Lullaby" was its closing track. But to the frustration of many listeners, it's been three years since that song was released, and Masochism still has not materialized.
This could finally change. On Instagram last night, Ferreira asked fans to suspend their 'angry and death threats' until April. Today on Instagram and YouTube, she posted a teaser for a new single called "Don't Forget", which is "coming soon". The caption of the video reads: “Do you remember me? Longtime collaborator Jorge Elbrecht comments, “get reddi wrld,” with plenty of enthusiastic emojis. A Capitol Records publicist also just sent an email teasing the song's release, pointing to Ferreira's Instagram post. I don't know if we really get Masochismor if she still calls the album Masochism, but a new Sky Ferreira single is definitely imminent. Will it go down tonight? Tomorrow? Next week? We'll let you know when it comes out...
