I've never been a big mobile gamer, and that's Xbox's fault. I grew up with Xbox; I remember buying the original Xbox console for Christmas and playing Halo and NASCAR for as long as my parents could. I bought the Xbox 360 when I went to college, and like everyone else, I went through some tough times in the company's history (I'm looking at you, Red Ring of Death).
After college we had the Xbox One, a lackluster direction of the company that led to a change in management. When the Xbox One S came out, I couldn't wait to upgrade from the One to the new form factor. And, of course, when they released the Xbox Series X, I immediately upgraded.
Xbox has always been where I played. I dove into PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile games, but none of the others ever stayed like Xbox. However, I always wanted to be able to enjoy Xbox when I was away from my Xbox. Enter the RiotPWR Xbox Cloud Game Controller.
When RiotPWR offered to ship their new iPhone controller designed in conjunction with the Xbox team, I jumped at the chance. In my mind I thought, "Finally, an iPhone controller for Xbox Remote Play and Xbox Cloud Gaming that Xbox actually signed. »
While there are plenty of iPhone controllers out there that let you enjoy Xbox away from your console (including the Xbox Wireless Controller), I was expecting one that was made specifically for the iPhone and got the blessing from the Xbox team. himself. So how does RiotPWR's controller shake? Let's go.
RiotPWR Xbox Cloud Gamepad: Pricing and Availability

The RiotPWR Xbox Cloud Game Controller is available direct through RiotPWR and other retailers like Amazon for $69,99. Although it's one of the most expensive controllers in the company's lineup, it's priced similarly to an Xbox Wireless Controller for the Xbox Series X/S and other competing iOS controllers. .

RiotPWR Xbox Cloud Gamepad: What I Liked

After spending about a week with the RiotPWR Xbox Cloud game controller, a few things stand out. The first, and probably the most important, is that it's just a great controller. If you normally game on Xbox and use the company's Xbox Wireless Controller, you'll feel right at home with RiotPWR's controller.
The layout here is the same as the Xbox controller, down to the Xbox button in the middle. This makes it an ideal companion for all the best Xbox Cloud games Gaming since you don't need to adjust anything regarding the physical controls.
Additionally, I found the RiotPWR, much like the Xbox controller, to be incredibly comfortable to use. One of the best things about the controller is that since you just place your phone in the device holder, you don't have to remove your phone case. I was able to play for hours without feeling any fatigue thanks to the way the iPhone was mounted directly above the controller. Other controllers, like the Backbone One, mount an iPhone between the controls like a Nintendo Switch.
While some people prefer a Switch-esque layout, I've found that I actually prefer RiotPWR's approach. It's probably because I'm an Xbox person and not a Nintendo person. It's incredibly biased, but hey, when a controller comes close to what you're used to, you prefer it too.
The controller also has other great features, like direct charging with USB-C and, would you believe it, a headphone jack! All of this makes playing super easy without having to worry about unnecessary devices or cables.
RiotPWR Xbox Cloud Gamepad: What I Didn't Like

Although the RiotPWR controller is ideal for Xbox Cloud Gaming, it is not perfect. Some of the menu buttons, including the Xbox button, didn't always perform as expected when I pressed them.
In some games, the menu buttons just wouldn't work. The Xbox button, which should bring up the Xbox home menu, was also tactile and, even when it worked, was very laggy. I don't know if it was more a problem with the controller or with Xbox Cloud Gaming itself, but it was a common problem I encountered during my week of testing. Granted, no internet is good internet in the US, so I won't rule out connectivity issues either.
Things also got weird when I tried to use the menu buttons outside of Xbox Cloud Gaming. They sometimes worked, but they were mapped to arbitrary commands. For example, playing one of the best Apple Arcade games worked just fine, but clicking the Xbox button opened Game Center. Not a bad guess since it's the closest thing Apple Arcade has to a game service's main menu, but it's just a quirk you have to play around with and… see what happens. pass.
The only other minor issue I had with the controller was the cord. While some people want a wired controller since you don't have to worry about your accessory's battery life, I'm not one of those people. The wired connection felt odd to me, especially since the cord was much longer than you need to go from the controller to your iPhone. Sure, that's handy when you might want to hook it up to your best iPad or Mac, but I'd prefer a wireless controller. Maybe that option will come soon!
RiotPWR Xbox Cloud Gamepad: Competition

While the RiotPWR Xbox Cloud game controller may be the first purpose-built iPhone controller alongside Team Xbox, it still has a ton of competition.
Ever since Apple opened up support for third-party controllers in a big way on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, there's no shortage of options when it comes to the best iPhone controllers for gaming. From Razer Kishi to Rotor Riot, there are plenty of options for finding a controller that's right for you.
The Kishi, which we loved when we reviewed it, is particularly popular with many because it takes a Nintendo Switch-like approach and, unlike other controllers, can adapt to a range of phones thanks to its flexible design. Like the RiotPwr, it works with just about any game and has excellent build quality and controls.
One of my favorite overall controllers for the iPhone is the aforementioned Backbone One. If you prefer a Nintendo Switch-like controller layout over the Xbox, there's no better controller on the market right now. And, while the controller itself is awesome, the Backbone app takes the experience to a whole new level for iPhone gaming.
RiotPWR Xbox Cloud Controller Gaming : Should I buy it?

You should buy it if...
- You want to play Xbox Cloud Gaming on your iPhone
- You want a controller specifically designed for the cloud gaming service
- You prefer the Xbox controller layout to the other options
You shouldn't buy this if...
- You want a wireless gamepad
- You want a controller you can use on iOS and Android
- You prefer the PlayStation or Nintendo Switch controller layout
The RiotPWR Xbox Cloud game controller is available for $69,99 on Amazon, and the company plans to launch it at other retailers soon.
After using the controller for a few weeks, I'm really into the idea of a controller specifically designed for the best experience with Xbox Cloud Gaming. However, the latency issues are still there, and the inconsistent experience with the controller buttons makes it feel like the first-gen product.
Xbox cloud Gaming still has some way to go to get things working really well and RiotPWR has some work to do to get the buttons to do what they say they will. I imagine that also means Xbox has some work to do with them.
Those two things aside, the cloud promise Gaming is huge and surely RiotPWR pushes the experience further here. If they can overcome these initial hurdles, it will soon be an incredibly smooth experience. So much so that I would never hesitate to play from anywhere again.
