the australian wilson rebel She was one of Hollywood's most popular comedic actresses for the past decade. The “Giving the note” franchise was instrumental in this, but we could also see it in titles like 'hen party''Better… Single', 'Counterintelligence Agent' or 'Compulsive Frauds'.
Now Wilson returns with 'Vuelta al insti', his first film since 2019 in which he also shows a remarkable physical change as a result of his weight loss. What does not change is his way of approaching humor in a high school comedy for Netflix that offers just enough to not get bored with watching it.
Just enough not to get bored
Without a doubt, the most striking aspect of 'Back to High School' is its premise, as it features a young woman who is in her senior year of high school having an accident during a cheerleading number , going into a coma, hence only wakes up 20 years later. Everything has changed except for her, who still acts like a teenager and tries to pick up where she left off.
If the premise can make us think of the series '7 lives' and what happened with the character of Toni Cantó, what really interests 'Back to school' is an approach closer to that of romantic comedies focused on a teenage audience like "I've never been kissed"'Mean girls' or 'Clueless (Out of wave)', to name just a few titles.
Of course, 'Vuelta al insti' offers its best moments when it moves away from it and takes advantage of the contrast between the fashions of twenty years ago and those of today. This is where we find what comes closest to a certain personality for this feature film directed by alex hardcastleeither because of details added to certain scenes to explore the contrast between one era and another, or when the story simply stops to focus on them, as in this tribute to a certain music video by Britney Spears.
It also works very well this boot in which Angourice rice brings to life a youthful version of Wilson's character. It's not that it deviates from what is expected, but the big discovery of 'Two Good Guys' gives the film the spark needed to hope that the film will, at least, be a great pass. -weather.

Unfortunately, the script signed by Andrew Knauer, Arthur Pielli Brandon and Scott Jones ends up betting on just complicating it enough and going slow. Some jokes about the waking world we live in are fun, but "Back to School" quickly loses its spark and gives it all to Wilson's inspiration by elevating overly conventional material, and it's not particularly inspired either.
There I already told you we found no surprises when it comes to approaching the character of Stephanie. I find it kind of funny in a controlled ecosystem and "Back to School" is a film that seems designed for personal genius, while the rest of the characters are just pawns for the inevitable final moral.
This leads to 'Back to School' being predictable at all levels, but we can say that of countless titles that manage to transcend this limitation and make us vibrate. This week's big Netflix premiere doesn't, but it offers enough that you won't feel like you wasted your time watching it. Be careful, if you are "allergic" to this type of film, do not go near it.
Short
“Back to school” is a perfect example of a passable film, capable of making you smile and even make you laugh, but at the moment of truth it doesn't strive to be more than a comfortable, easy-to-see version of what it could have been. Overall, Netflix has released quite a few lesser original movies this year, but also some much better ones.
