Katy Perry just had to say something when comrade American Idol judge Luke Bryan messed up the lyrics to one of his songs.
It all started on last week's episode of the ABC singing competition show when Katy, Luke and Lionel Richie had some downtime between auditions for Season 5 (the show's 20th season overall). While Katy enjoyed a hot drink, Luke rose from his seat singing his 2010 hit song "Firework." Before the country music star got too far into the uplifting anthem, Katy stopped him and clarified that he was singing the wrong lyrics.
"It's not high, high, high and it's not uh, uh, uh," she said.
“Well, what is it then? Because I've been dying to know all these years,” he replied.
Katy replied, “It's fear, fear, fear. ADMIRATION. »
After confirming it is indeed a dictionary term, Katy extended her PSA to fans watching from home. "It's fear, fear, fear, everyone," she said. “Do it right! It's not fireworks, it's fireworks.
In other words, the correct lyrics are, "Cause baby, you're fireworks / Come show 'em what you're worth / Make 'em go, 'awe, awe, awe' / As you shoot at across the sky. »
In case people missed her news, she also shared the moment on her Instagram reiterating the song's lyrics in the caption. "FOR THE OFFICIAL RECORD ☝🏻 this is AWE not UP this is FIREWORK not FIREWORKSSS," Katy wrote.
Additionally, the Grammy-nominated artist also resurfaced a 2012 article on “Firework” inspired by the American novelist and poet. Jack Kerouac's work. Specifically, Katy's lyrics were influenced by a line from her 1957 book, On the roadwhich reads in part: "Burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow Roman candles exploding like spiders through the stars... and everyone says, 'Awww!' »
After hearing Katy set the record straight on her single "Firework," her fans rushed to the comments section to applaud her. “KATY U TELL ME THIS IS NOT FIREWORKS 💜💜💜💜,” one person wrote. "Not Luke thinking [it's] 'up' omg 💀," added another. “That joke 😂,” said another fan.
The story continues
Others also shared that they too had met people who didn't know the lyrics by heart. “People saying fireworks always made me feel 🥴,” one follower commented. “How do people not know 😭,” someone else wrote.
Maybe now Katy's message will reach every corner of the internet and everyone will be on the same page at her next gig.
