Wireless Android Auto is incredibly convenient, but it's still relatively rare to find the feature built into your vehicle. However, a simple Android Auto wireless adapter makes it incredibly easy to add the feature - what else do you want to know about them?
What is a Wireless Android Auto Adapter?
Android Auto is usually used in a wired form, with a cable connecting your car to your phone. This connection slowly charges your phone while transmitting data to the car to project Android Auto onto the infotainment screen. Wired Android Auto has become commonplace in virtually all new vehicles, but not its wireless counterpart.
As such, a trend has emerged to offer adapters that can support a car's USB port and connect to your phone wirelessly. This was originally done through unofficial means, but Google actually officially licensed at least one product to support the feature.
Motorola MA1, AAWireless, Carsifi — What's the difference?
There are currently three adapters that can add Android Auto wirelessly to your car. The first that was published was AAwireless, developed by a small team and brought to market through crowdfunding. The simple adapter has a detachable cable that connects to your car and projects Android Auto wirelessly to your car. It has a companion app that can provide firmware updates, help with pairing, and make more advanced changes to the experience if you choose to do so. AAWireless is the handyman in this comparison, offering a simple setup with more under the hood.
AAWireless costs $85 and still ships via Indiegogo, usually with a one-month wait depending on region.

Le Motorola MA1, meanwhile, is the only product officially licensed to deliver Android Auto wirelessly to vehicles. It has an integrated USB-A connection and works without any application. Just pair via Bluetooth and the rest is handled as if you were connected to the car. The purpose of the product is simplicitya goal he certainly achieves.
MA1 has been incredibly popular among customers, leading to the $90 Wireless Android Auto Dongle completely out of stock at Amazon and Target for weeks. You can try your luck with alerts, but this is a tricky device to get your hands on.

There is also another crowdfunded Android Auto wireless adapter, carsifi. This dongle is similar to AAWireless in that it has a companion app for advanced features and updates, but has great functionality in a quick switch button which allows you to easily change the phone the dongle connects to.
We've been using Carsifi for a little while at this point, with a review coming soon, but the $90 dongle seems like a solid option so far. It can be purchased through Indiegogo, usually shipping within a month.
Android Auto Wireless Adapter FAQ
– Will these adapters add Android Auto to my car?
One of the biggest questions we often see about wireless Android Auto adapters is whether they will add Android Auto to a vehicle that doesn't already have it.
Unfortunately, the answer is no. Your car must have the wired version of Android Auto, either officially through the in-car infotainment system or through a head unit, to enable wireless connection. These adapters just ditch the cable requirement.
