Nothing official about Top Gun: Maverick is coming to Paramount Plus yet. While The Lost City and Sonic the Hedgheog 2 made their way onto the streamer just over 45 days after hitting theaters, Tom Cruise's big-budget blockbuster is set to take the opposite approach.
According to Puck (opens in a new tab) (H/T IndieWire (opens in a new tab)), the film is very much locked into an exclusive 120-day theatrical window. That means he wouldn't come in Streaming, nor would it be available for rental or purchase on digital storefronts, until that period had elapsed.
Top Gun: Maverick was released on May 27. If the 120-day window holds, it won't get to Paramount Plus anytime soon. September 24 at the earliest. Which is quite long, but definitely worth it from the perspective of Tom Cruise and those looking to keep the cinematic experience going for as long as possible. It's also expected to be available in the US and UK, given the streamer's impending launch in the latter region on June 22.
Speaking at MoffetNathanson's 9th Annual Media and Communications Summit (H/T The Streamable (opens in a new tab)), Paramount Chief Financial Officer Naveen Chopra said the streamer will continue to offer the 45 days for most of his films, but Top Gun: Maverick will probably be the exception.
“We always look at it on a case-by-case basis [basis]. There are certain films that are truly made for the theatrical experience. Top Gun [Maverick] is a great example of that,” Chopra said. “You should see this movie in a theater, and it will stay in theaters longer. »
