NetflixLuisana Lopilato and Juan Minujín. A combo that cannot fail and even more if you add the vision of Sebastián De Caro. The result is a nimble romantic comedy that's ideal for those summer nights and more this time around, due to its Christmas nods. marriages this is the name of this new film which arrives on the platform next Wednesday, December 7th.
Before moving forward, an essential notion. What matrimillas are mentioned? According to a definition provided by the same platform, the so-called matripoints (“matri” from the Latin matrimonīum and “milla” from the Latin mille passus) refer to an informal scoring system used by couples during cohabitation, in which each member of the relationship accumulates points and can exchange them for some kind of prize of your choice.
“The term is an analogy for frequent flyer programs offered by commercial airlines. In this way, a member of the couple makes a concession or a gesture and in return gets points which can be used to do something of their own interest. This system of exchanges, agreements and mutual rewards can be explicit or implicit, ie openly agreed upon by the couple or occur naturally. In the United States, this practice is called brownie points and dates back to 1951, complete Netflix.
The plot
That said, the direction the case is taking is clear. Lopilato and Minujín play Belén and Fede, a couple who have been married for several years with a school-aged son and daughter. The monotony, the work, the endless responsibilities, the personal problems that add up or subtract, make a couple disconnected and full of problems that they are unable to talk about satisfactorily.
So someone tells them about a new technological innovation that can help them and, instead of opting for a therapy, for example, they decide to try it. After a time of harmony, secrets and personal aspirations will get in the way and everything will turn into a fierce competition to bring together a certain number of marriages.
For Sebastián De Caro, this film, in addition to being of a genre that he has known and loved "from an early age", has an essential characteristic that his previous works did not have: "Unlike the projects that are born with a screenplay that was written by one, that featured production companies, I was brought in by Buffalo Films and Tieless Media. There was already a first script and Juan and Luisana were in it. That's when I became a director. »
“It felt like a big challenge to me, it was to contribute or peek with this whole storyline already going on. It was a story that I found funny and that interested me because it talked about the idea of technology through links, personal relationships. This is where we started the journey: defining the rest of the cast, adding Rocío Blanco as screenwriter as well (the other screenwriter is Gabriel Korenfeld), finishing the script and other problems”.

a romantic comedy
De Caro emphasizes the exchange and participation of all people from different fields when defining the aspects that remained to be defined, which resulted in a very dialogical and common work: "Obviously, we want to hear the opinions of the actress and lead actor on the rest of the cast, for thousands of issues: the people they've worked with and who they want to work with again, what they think of the characters.
“You also want them to be physically different. For example: suppose you have an excellent actor but very similar to Juan and another good one who contrasts with him. Well, we chose the second. Anything, but from there to seeing the temperaments, we worked with Pablo Ini, who directed the casting. It's a job for a lot of people. When you have to put together a casting, you have to think about a lot of variables and go for it. Often for a character there are two or three who could do it very well, often there is no better or worse and they sometimes define very silly details”, he explains.
Among this cast that they were adding, the performance of Andrea Rincón easily stands out, which brings to life a friend of Lopilato's character.

De Caro talks about her qualities and her work: “Maybe Andrea doesn't have a lot of runs, but the run she has is very powerful. He is powerful and has also worked with some very good colleagues and hasn't gone out of tune at all. So, in addition to beauty and presence, in addition to magnetism and charisma, she has a lot of issues that don't necessarily have to do with acting talent. »
Of course, the director also clarifies what has to do with acting: "As an actress, she has a lot of truth, a lot of physique and I remember the first meeting we had: the notes she had, the readings she had of the script, they were very smart".
The Lopilato and Minujin duo
“I include Lu and Juan: they are all very sensible actors and actresses in their comments and ideas on scenes and characters. So they enrich and make the work very easy,” he adds. He specifies about them: “There are characteristics that they share which have to do with the method of work, with professionalism, things which in their case, with their level, is the basis. In particular, Juan is a very… come on, he's a director. He directed a very good film, The Cowboy. He has tools and an ability that goes beyond acting. And Luisana has a flair and an ear for comedy that also makes it a breeze. When these things are combined, something incredible happens, when Juan's gaze, so integral, and Luisana's certainty in comedy come together.

Lopilato, on the other hand, had to shoot while she was pregnant with her fourth daughter, born last August. Seeing the Matrimillas, a keen eye can observe the tricks to hide their condition.
“It was a challenge above all for Clara Stornini, makeup manager and Liliana Piekar, wardrobe manager. It was a challenge for everyone but especially for them. And for Luisana. But she's such a good partner and so professional that we had more trouble than her, she literally danced across the top of the table.
And he adds: “Obviously, we had to be careful. Although she is a mother of three and now four precious children, she has enviable genetics and resilience. But beyond that, it was taking into account a couple of things and that's it, and I already forget when I see the movie. We've never had a 'no, wait, that can't be done' situation.
From Argentina to the world
Working with Netflix can be both a challenge and a source of endless possibilities. Like other productions, Matrimillas will premiere on December 7 not only in Argentina but in all the countries where the platform is present.
“It's a dream come true. The best thing that can happen to a director. In this sense, you feel privileged. I hope this will happen again. What else can happen to you? “, he considers.
Then, he specifies: "Today we know what the services of Streaming and it's the biggest in the world, I also take with me a contemporary experience… think everyone who studies or makes films dreams of it. the day i saw 20 kisses At the cinema a tear fell, because I was going to see my film in the same place where I saw them all.

And finally, think about the possible readings of marriages: “For me, technology, hyperconnectivity, globalization, social networks, changes in social behavior are subjects that fascinate me. I work every day in communication, in radio, beyond devoting myself to cinema, so it's a subject that interests me a lot. And it seemed to me that we could do a comedy in which, beyond the comedy, we could talk about couples and love, but also discuss a bit of all that. So this fragment of film where we talk about technology and links seemed new to me to pose it like this, in a light way, let's say”.
