TL; DR
- A new Plex Discover update lets you integrate all your subscriptions from Streaming.
- Now you can search, save, and watch content from multiple platforms without leaving Plex.
- The new features are rolling out today and don't require a Plex Pass subscription.
We've all been there: "What should we watch tonight?" This statement is usually followed by a jump from an application of Streaming to another trying to find something interesting.
Wouldn't it be better to have a single application that integrates all your subscriptions from Streaming so you can search all at once? Well, the latest Plex update and its discovery system does just that. Like the One Ring, it is the only application of Streaming to rule them all.

Along with this service integration feature, there is a new universal watchlist that will definitely make it easier to find new content.
We explain these two new features in more detail below. Luckily, to answer the question on everyone's mind: no, you don't need to be a Plex Pass subscriber to use Plex's new discovery features. Everything detailed here is free for all Plex users starting today.
These new features will be available on all major platforms starting today. The only caveat to note is that Roku users, unfortunately, will have to wait a bit for full access to Plex's deeplink to content online. Streaming outside. However, Roku users will soon see this full integration.
Discover Plex: integrate your platforms
If this is your first time setting up Plex, you will now see the screen above. You will use the checkboxes to notify Plex of the services of Streaming that you use. This will help Plex organize your search and discover results in a list that applies specifically to you.

In other words, let's say you really want to watch the Bruce Willis classic Die Hard. However, you do not know on which platform of Streaming he is available. In Plex, you'll search for "Die Hard" and it'll show you a screen for that particular movie. On this page, it will tell you where you can watch Die Hard with a preference for the services you subscribe to. If it's a service you haven't subscribed to, it'll tell you that too.
The order in which the services are displayed for you is as follows:
- Any Plex private media servers you have or are connected to
- Platforms of Streaming to which you are subscribed
- Platforms of Streaming to which you are not subscribed
This will make it easier to find Die Hard wherever he is without ever having to leave Plex.
Let's say you find Die Hard and it's playing on a service you subscribe to. Clicking on that service from the Die Hard page will directly open the movie on that service. In other words, you'll go straight from Plex to watching Die Hard. Once you are done, you will simply exit this service from Streaming in Plex and find something else to watch.
Universal watchlist available on all your devices
The previous feature is a godsend for sure, but it's only useful when you know what you want to watch. Alongside Plex's new discovery feature, there's a new Universal Watchlist that will help you find content you've already expressed an interest in.
The best part about Plex's watchlist feature is that it works for everything: movies and TV shows on Streaming, movies in theaters, and even movies and shows that haven't been released yet. You simply find the content you want to watch at any given time, add it to your watchlist, and Plex will keep tabs on it. Once it's available, you can click on that media's content page and it will work like the Die Hard example we've already discussed.
Plex's Universal Watchlist will work on all your devices and will work for all content, even those that haven't been released yet.
To make things even easier, this service works on all your devices. In other words, you can add a movie to your watchlist on your phone and it will automatically sync with your watchlist on your streaming devices, web apps, and more.
Eventually, the Plex app on your phone will send a push notification based on the watchlist content. In the case of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured at the top of this article, your phone will notify you when that movie is on Disney Plus or one of your connected private media servers. Plex didn't give us a specific timeframe for push notifications, but they're definitely on the way.
