PlayStation 5, why hasn't the price increased in the United States?
– Reviews News
Usually, after years of production, the prices of Sony consoles have always gone down in Europe and the United States. It happened with the PlayStation 3 whose price after 3 years was reduced by $100 and it happened with the PlayStation 4.
However, after two years of PlayStation 5, Sony even announced a price increase in Europe and Japan. Certainly the circumstances are very different, if compared to what happened in the previous generation, but this decision of the Japanese company is somewhat of an exception, especially if you think that it will not happen in the market American.
Daniel Ahmad, principal analyst at Niko Partners, a Shanghai-based gaming research firm, isn't so sure. " A price hike in the United States is unlikely given the strength of the US dollar “ against other currencies, which likely led to the initial rise in MSRP. In Europe, where the dollar and the euro are in a 1:1 ratio for the first time in 20 years, the price rose by 50 euros; in the UK (where the pound is at its lowest since 1985) the price has risen by 30 pounds and in Japan by another 5 yen.
We must keep in mind, still according to Ahmad, that the American market is the largest in the video game market and that it is very competitive and that increasing the price of the console could be a risk. Renowned analyst Michael Patcher agrees, saying that “If Sony can raise the price of consoles here too, they will, but that would be a really dumb idea”.
What do you think about it? Will you buy the console even with the new price?
