Phoebe Bridgers has just answered one of the toughest questions known to mankind: what's your favorite Taylor Swift song?
During an appearance on Charli XCX's Best song of all time podcast, the "Motion Sickness" singer revealed she's been a Swiftie since she was a "failed guitar teacher" in her teens. When one of her students asked to learn how to play a Taylor song, Bridgers looked through the 11-Grammy Award winner's catalog and "just started listening all the time."
"It's great art," she said of Swift's work. “She is like the king of her craft. She's just a perfect example of someone who uses every resource at her disposal to be completely authentic.

There are over 200 songs in Taylor Swift's canon, but Bridgers was immediately ready with her answer when asked what her favorite was. Although she said it changes pretty much daily, her current number 1 is "Betty," one of three interconnected people. folklore songs following a messy teenage love triangle.
"I love when songwriters make you decide what's so sad about that person," Bridgers explained. “It's not the movie version of a love story. Do you have a crush on someone and then associate with someone else because your feelings for them overwhelm you? It's so sad. I think it's genius. And then we don't really know what happens at the end.
The 27-year-old indie rocker also showed his love for one of the saddest tracks from Swift's 2010 album. Speak Now: " Dear John. She said she once accidentally tricked fans who heard her band use the seven-minute ballad as a sound check at one of her gigs into thinking she would be covering it on tour. In fact, it wasn't even her singing, it was her drummer, Marshall Vore.
"We have such similar voices, people think that's me," Bridgers laughed. “Damn, this song is such a story. It's like a whole movie.
Charli also asked the 'Kyoto' artist to work with Swift on her Red (Taylor's version) project, for which Bridgers provided the vocals for an unreleased track titled "Nothing New." "I did it myself," she said after receiving Swift's initial intro text via Aaron Dessner's phone, whom she first spoke with. Billboard in her report Women in Music.
"I can't imagine singing on a cooler project," she continued. “I connect so much with this song. It's a masterpiece.
Swift originally wrote 'Nothing New' at age 22 for her 2012 record Red, but it was later removed from the final product. It sounds like Bridgers' own story of being a promising young woman who feels like your time is limited in the music industry; his first album Stranger in the Alps came out when she was just 22, which she feared at the time was too old.
"The fear you have when you're a young woman in music is unmatched," Bridgers told Charli. “I think I definitely fetishized my own youth. I was like, 'Maybe I can't be the best songwriter in the world, but if they always say how young I am, then they're going to be really impressed with me.'
