Netflix continues to be the invincible king of diffusion in Mexicoaccording to The UIC. In its market research diffusion in the country corresponding to the second quarter of 2022, the analyst firm positions Netflix in first place with a sweeping 61,1% market sharemore than four times the percentage share of its nearest competitor.

Far away, Disney+, HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video occupy the second, third and fourth positionsrespectively, of the market for diffusion in Mexico. The important thing to mention is that, although it may not look like it, the numbers have moved, albeit very slightly.

Netflix was the only top 4 platform to lose shareaccording to information from The UICwhile the other three have increased, compared to last April's report which recorded the percentages at the end of 2021:

Market Streaming in Mexico in the second quarter of 2022, according to The CIU

The difference in percentages for the platforms is minimal, however Netflix is the one that has changed the most on the downside since it has lost 2,4% of market share. Disney+ rose 0,2%, with the biggest gainers being HBO Max, a full percentage unit, and Amazon Prime Video, 0,5% share.

Other important details to mention are that Claro Video also lost shares, 0,8%, and for the first time Star+ appears in the chart, with a timid presence of 2,1%. According The UICin the second quarter of 2022, there were 12,6 million subscriptions to the platforms of diffusioni.e. 6 out of 10 Internet users, i.e. 56,2 million Mexicans, have access to a catalog of on-demand content.

The UIC mentions that the market diffusion in Mexico is "at the dawn of a tariff reconfiguration, competitive and preferential"citing unfavorable economic conditions.

Moreover, it is important to note that there is also a major change in the Netflix offer which will surely show changes in the second half of 2022 and beyond in 2023. Its new cheap plan with advertisements is intended to attract more paid users, but It will not be an easy mission because its comparison with other cheap plans does not position it as the best option.

We will see if the market will change and how, if they are in favor of Netflix and its new plan, or on the contrary, Mexican users will opt for other platforms with better paid content offers.
