Films, series and sporting events in Streaming were once clearer. More and more providers are entering the market: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, DAZN and Sky are just the best-known examples of an increasingly fragmented offer.
At the same time, many services are becoming more and more expensive. Some DAZN and Sky customers have had to dig deeper into their pockets since February. Cost increases for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are also to be expected, as we recently reported.
So what to do? So that users do not have to do without certain services, it is high time to revisit an old motto of Netflix: "Love is to share a password". In other words: account sharing.

Netflix prohibits account sharing outside your home
Netflix prohibits account sharing outside your home.
Share an account Streaming with others saves money, that's for sure. In the Netflix universe, however, account sharing has only been allowed under certain conditions for some time. Lawyer Christian Solmecke explains in an interview with CHIP:
“With Netflix, users are only allowed to share the account with people who live in the same household – i.e. with their family or roommate (point 4.2 of the terms and conditions). However, according to the official terms and conditions, friends or relatives who live in other apartments are not allowed to share the same Netflix account. »
If you are found to be illegally sharing an account with your ex-girlfriend's brother-in-law, penalties are imminent. “Theoretically, at least, the service could block the account and demand compensation for lost revenue,” says Solmecke.
According to the lawyer, there is currently no evidence that Netflix consistently takes action against account sharing. Last year, the leader of Streaming only introduced stricter security requirements.

DAZN: "Login data cannot be shared with others"
Account sharing is also a thorn in the side of provider DAZN, which doubled its prices for new and existing customers on February 1 (they now pay 29,99 euros per month instead of 14,99 euros). According to Solmecke, the terms of service contain passages "which state that login data cannot be shared with another person".
You are allowed to use your account on up to two different devices. “On the website, however, DAZN writes how this is intended: It's not uncommon for important sporting events to overlap in time and you don't want to miss any of them. Or simply "simply" be informed via the second screen of a parallel match in the Champions League for example."
The function is therefore not intended for account sharing. According to Solmecke, DAZN could theoretically “suspend or terminate the account or block certain customer benefits (item 8.2)” for people who do so anyway.
A fiasco of Streaming is it imminent? Why Netflix, Sky and DAZN score their own mark with higher prices
Shared Sky subscription: penalty of 1437 euros possible
Anyone who breaks Sky's rules should expect penalties.
The situation at Sky is much more complex. There are many terms and conditions that list the terms of use of the platform and some of them differ significantly from each other.
However, they have one thing in common: "Sky seems to stipulate in all variants that sharing of passwords is only allowed within the household or in the case of the Sky Go mobile offer to people in the same household ( point 1.1.4.1 for Sky, point 2.4 at Sky Go, point 2.3 at Sky Ticket and Sky Online),” says Solmecke.
Anyone who violates this rule should expect various penalties. The lawyer gives some examples: “Sky Ticket's terms and conditions talk about a temporary withdrawal of viewing rights, and Sky's terms and conditions even mention termination (after a warning). »
According to Solmecke, the terms and conditions of Sky Go and Sky Ticket specify that "Sky may require a contractual penalty of twice the annual fee of the Sky subscription concerned, but a maximum of 1437 euros". He warns the company could crack down if someone is caught sharing accounts.

Customers are not unlikely to cancel
Therefore the Streaming becomes more and more expensive, while at the same time account sharing is prohibited in most cases. Solmecke says: “From the consumer's point of view, it would of course be desirable for this rule to be relaxed – but not from the supplier's point of view. »
After all, Netflix, Sky and DAZN are all incomes that would crash in the short term. In the long run, however, even more people could opt into a subscription if account sharing was openly an option.
Ultimately, the pricing tactics of service providers Streaming are associated with some risk. Because it is not at all unlikely that passionate streamers will turn their backs on the big platforms. This shows a survey by the voting platform FanQ of 2000 football fans in Germany.
Result: 65,3% of participants said they would like to cancel their DAZN subscription given the current price increase.
