There are only a few days left to say goodbye to 'Ozark' for good. The wonderful series Netflix will come to an end April 29 with the premiere of the second part of its fourth and final season. For my part, I have already been able to see the first three episodes and I was not disappointed at all.
As expected, the series picks up the story where it left off last January, that is to say with Ruth hungry for revenge after what happened to his brother Wyatt. That leads to the first of these final seven "Ozark" episodes being particularly intense, and then it's time to run the course from what's happening here.
true to form
Obviously I'm not going to go into the details of what happens, but I want to point out that this is an episode that works very well as an appetizer for the inevitable cascade of events that will unfold by the end of the series. And it does so without renouncing that characteristic approach of the series, that uncomfortable immobility with which the viewer is always aware that things could go wrong at any moment.
In fact, the violence is again confined to punctual explosions, murderous by necessity but without, at least for the moment, having the continuity necessary for anything to appear inevitable. It's something that goes very well with Marty's attitude, since the character embodied by jason batman He is a specialist in handling crisis situations, but there comes a time when it seems increasingly impossible for him to ensure the safety of his family.
However, the series focuses again on its attempts to regain control, without neglecting the maneuvers of Wendy to manage to keep all those for which she fought so hard (and sacrificed). This even leads to a dialectical clash between the two it ends up making it very clear where the two stand and how far they're willing to go.
inevitable return to darkness
Suffice it to say, the series has been following an apparent path from dark to light so far, something that was even endorsed with the use made of photography, but this latest batch of episodes feel like a inevitable fall into total darkness. For now, everything is happening with a certain parsimony, the same that would really be a dead-end room that gradually fills with water with you inside...
'Ozark' doesn't try to show anything like this out of the blue, but showing how everything is gradually heading towards a dead end. So far he hasn't reached the level of brilliance exhibited with anything to do with Ben's inevitable sacrifice in season three - note that his absence is still quite significant here, they haven't forgotten, far from it , which happened-, but it's creating the perfect breeding ground for it. There, the Netflix series has always been able to move very well.
And it's that 'Ozark' is bound to an unhappy ending, even for the main characters who can make themselves alive during the opening credits. From the beginning, a series has been a race forward, an attempt to show that the Byrde family could forge ahead in an impossible situation. This caused a lot of damage and reached a point where his towers will no longer be enough -already the end of the third episode clearly shows that Marty has been overwhelmed by the situation-. Ruth was the first to see it, but it's only a matter of time before it's the end of the Byrdes. It was always clear that it had to be so.
Short
'Ozark' returns true to its style for pave the way for the end of the series. After a particularly powerful first episode, it's time to reposition everything before everything rushes. I can't wait to see it and I guess many of you are too. Hopefully this is a farewell match for one of Netflix's best original series.
