Fantasy and horror cinema is in particularly good shape in 2022. Although Troll can't be considered a horror movie per se, Netflix's new feature has enough stuff to coyly slip into that category constantly referring to King Kong by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, and of course also to the Jordan Vogt-Roberts version released in 2017. Troll is directed by Roar Uthaug, a filmmaker who handled the Grave robber 2018 with Alicia Vikander, and seeks to find the approach of Andr vredal with his troll hunter, where he explored Norse legends and myths through found imagery. But here in Troll, we have this kaiju eiga dressing up with a gigantic beast looking to destroy Oslo. Then we leave you with its new official trailer:
Troll combines elements of kaiju eiga, horror, and Norse fantasy.
« Deep in Mount Dovre, something gigantic is awakening after a thousand years of captivity. The creature destroys everything in its path and quickly approaches Oslo“, says its synopsis. The feature will star Ine Marie Wilmann, Mads Sjgrd Pettersen, Gard B. Eidsvold and Kim S. Falck-Jrgensen, seeking a minimalist cast and a clear focus on the creature whose mythological origins date back to Scandinavian lands. There's no shortage of action in this film, which will be released on Netflix on December 1st..
When it comes to CGI and digital effects, Troll is one of the most interesting bets on the platformsince the creature is very well done (at least that's what we can see in the trailer) and the destruction of scenarios, as well as the creation of mythological environments where we see huge corpses, have nothing to envy to productions considered to be larger caliber.
