We've been thinking for a few weeks how complicated things are on Netflix, following the publication of the latest results and more than worrying short-term forecasts. The Dean of Services Streaming of films and series is facing both growing and powerful competition, and the need to offer developments in terms of its content, at a time when in-house production is a key factor for the company .
We find its strong point, of course, in the cinema and especially in the series, but for some time we have seen how much Netflix is diversifying its offer, continues to include documentaries and comedy specials as well. At first they did it to enrich their offer and, along the way, also to compensate for the loss of content from third parties, who opened their own platforms and, naturally, brought them to them.
Now, however, the main reason to diversify even more is to attract new customers, since some of those who have been customers for years have decided to switch their Netflix subscription to other platforms. As we can read in Deadline, it seems that a very interesting change is coming in this regard, since Netflix is reportedly exploring the possibilities of doing live streams.
One of the most notorious losses from the Netflix catalog of late has been titles from Marvel franchises, scooped up by Disney to bring to their own service, Disney+. And it is more interesting if we take into account that in a few weeks we are facing two novelties in the Netflix plans which, if we review the news of the last few months, we see that they can have a clear inspiration in Disney+.
And it is that if it is now that Netflix plans to test live broadcasts, it must be remembered that only a little over three months ago Disney + also began its tests in this regard. And, on the other hand, Disney has announced plans to create a cheaper, ad-supported subscription plan. And while Neflix's immediate response was to say they hadn't thought of that, in the two months since not only did they change their minds about itit is that they have even considered stepping on the accelerator to integrate this new measure as quickly as possible.
It doesn't seem, yes, that Netflix's plans for live shows are also those of Disney+, which would point to cultural and sporting events, but to unscripted series and comedy specials, i.e. more clean production. A proposal which, at least a priori, is most interesting.
