With a preview video on YouTube, Netflix has announced an animated film adaptation of the popular series of video games Tekken. You can find out what we already know about the series here.
The series of video games martial arts show Tekken, which has enjoyed decades of success, is getting an animated film adaptation on the service of Streaming Netflix. The group officially announced it. A preview video posted yesterday on the company's official YouTube channel shows the first scenes from the series.
Visually, it's in the tradition of classic Japanese anime series, but with its own style, based on the characters and the optics of the video games.
Why is it?
Not much is known about the history of the series. As a child, protagonist Jin Kazama learned martial arts techniques from his mother, which his ancestors developed over generations. But all the training doesn't help when a dark demon appears, kills Jin's mother, and his whole life is turned upside down.
Angered by his own weakness, Jin swears revenge and seeks out his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima, to learn from him and gain "absolute power". His quest then leads him to the King of Iron Fist Tournament, where he must prove himself.

The numbers video games of the series also revolve around said martial arts tournament. A typical beat 'em up, Tekken games are all about defeating your opponent in a one-on-one duel and emerging victorious in the Iron Fist tournament.
Dozens of different characters and fighting styles are available to players for this purpose. Whether it's series favorite Heihachi Mishima or Jin Kazama, who specializes in Japanese martial arts techniques, the mysterious Yoshimitsu, who fights with a sword, or Eddy, who tries to conquer his opponents with Brazilian capoeira – the series shines with a wide variety of characters and fighting styles.
Since the release of Tekken in 1994, there have been a total of 10 games of the main game series. At the start of the series, these were exclusively available for the Playstation, but now the games are also available for other consoles. In total, over 53 million copies of the Tekken series have been sold to date.
There's also an exclusive Pokémon spin-off that retains the typical Tekken style but battles with familiar Pokémon instead of human characters.
The series, dubbed Tekken: Bloodline, will be available exclusively on Netflix later this year. The service of Streaming has yet to announce an exact release date.
