Who is Lori Vallow?
Vallow, whose birth name was Lori Cox, grew up in San Bernardino, Calif., and was married twice in her youth. In her second marriage to William Lagioia, they had a son - Colby, who is interviewed throughout the documentary - in 1996, but they divorced two years later.
Vallow then married Joseph Anthony Ryan Jr. in 2001, and Ryan adopted Colby as his own son. Vallow and Ryan gave birth to their daughter, Tylee, in 2002. They separated in 2005, and a year later she married Charles Vallow, and together they adopted great-nephew Joshua Jaxon 'JJ' Vallow.
Until then, Vallow was considered a perfect mother, and in the documentary there is footage of her from that time saying, “Being a good mother and a good wife is very important to me. His son Colby adds, “We had a wonderful family before this happened. »

Enter Chad Daybell
Apparently, in 2015, Vallow began reading literature published by religious preacher Chad Daybell, who believed the apocalypse was coming and believed humans could be categorized from light to dark. The "dark" individuals were possessed by the devil, while the "light" ones were "followers of Jesus Christ."
The couple first met in 2018 at a "Preparing The People" event in Arizona, where Daybell told Vallow they had been married for seven lifetimes. A few months later, in 2019, she became estranged from her family and, according to JJ's grandparents, Larry Woodcock and Kay Vallow Woodcock, in KLSTV, “he just disappeared”. For 58 days, she completely disappeared. »
At the time, in February 2019, Charles Vallow filed for divorce, claiming Lori threatened to kill him and took $35 from his bank account. He applied for an order of protection against Lori, according to ABC15because of a "genuine fear for his life".
This fear was not unfounded, as five months later Charles was murdered by Lori's brother, Alex Cox. Cox claimed it was self-defense after Charles hit him with a baseball bat. Surprisingly, the police did not investigate the matter further.
In September 2019, Lori Vallow told JJ's school that she was taking him homeschooling, and he hasn't been seen since September 23. Tylee was last seen in public on September 8.

Meanwhile, in October, Daybell's wife, Tammy, died in highly suspicious circumstances. Ten days after calling the police and telling them that a masked intruder had tried to shoot him, he died of "natural causes", according to Daybell. An autopsy was not performed at the time, but his body was later exhumed and an investigation was carried out. The results were never made public, but the case was reopened.
Two weeks later, Lori Vallow and Daybell fled to Hawaii and got married, without JJ or Tylee present. Back in Rexburg, police were called for a welfare check when JJ's grandmother sounded the alarm that he hadn't been seen in weeks. Lori Vallow told police he was with his family in Arizona, and with the help of his brother, they packed up and fled the next day, with the FBI investigating their case.
For the next three months, they evaded authorities, until a warehouse in Rexburg belonging to Lori Vallow was searched. They found children's clothes, bicycles and photographs there. Video footage also showed Vallow and his brother moving items in and out of the locker before running away. Vallow and Daybell were arrested on February 20, 2020, and in June 2020 a search of Daybell's home found human remains buried in a pet cemetery, later confirmed to be those of JJ and Tylee.
What is the current status of the case?
In March 2021, Vallow and Daybell were indicted for the murders of Tamara, Tylee and JJ In June 2021, Lori Vallow was indicted by an Arizona grand jury for conspiracy to murder her husband Charles. Vallow herself had previously been found unfit to stand trial due to mental health issues, but in April 2022 she was declared competent. Both Vallow and Daybell have pleaded not guilty and their cases will go to trial together in January 2023.
What does the director of the documentary series say?
In an interview for AND! NewBorgman said, “Lori Vallow has many faces. Mother, sister, wife… and liar. I don't know if we'll ever know exactly what motivated Lori to commit such unspeakable crimes. But to formulate an answer, we have to look at Lori through the eyes of the people who knew her best. »
