The Brilliant (1980)
The film adaptation of Stephen King's novel by Stanley Kubrick The brilliant shouldn't be missing from any horror movie list. The film is about a family responsible for looking after the Overlook Hotel during the winter. In the total solitude of the snowy hotel, family man Jack Torrance quickly goes mad. Jack Nicholson delivers one of the best performances of his career as Jack. Stanley Kubrick's implementation of the story is compelling as a movie on every level, though book writer Stephen King wasn't exactly keen on the work due to some content tweaks. Moviegoers fully enjoy horror, psychological horror, mystical happenings and superb direction.

Cabin in the Woods (2012)

When you think of them these days Vuseries thinks, then you have pure splatter movies with violent scenes in mind. Long forgotten is the first part of the series, which came with an interesting concept and some really scary and psychologically depressing scenes. Compared to the last representatives of the franchise, the film handles with much less blood and convinces with high-quality handmade effects. An example of how less budget can sometimes be more.

The horror movie the tree is one of the best Netflix original movies. It tells of a prison where people live in unbearable conditions at different levels. Every day a platform with food moves up and down. If everyone held back, there would be enough for everyone. the tree is dark, frightening and harsh – and is based on an exciting concept, which allows to draw many conclusions about our society.

Similar to Vu also convinces the first part of the Hoteltrilogy with a strong and even essentially socially critical approach, which he embellishes with a few extremely harsh and frightening scenes. In Slovakia, two American tourists fall into the clutches of a secret organization that sells people to the rich for free. Hotel isn't for everyone and definitely one of the heaviest splatter movies. But if you like the genre, you'll love the movie.

Director Robert Eggers has with The witch spoke of a truly impressive film debut. The film tells the story of a family that settles in a small village in the United States in the 17th century. There, she is haunted by strange occurrences. The witch is a great work dealing with legends, religion and family endurance. Not an easy film, whose content is obvious. But a work that resonates even weeks after being viewed.
