Arcane single-handedly became not only one of the best adaptations of video games in another story medium, but also one of the most notable anime series of recent years. Despite this, we have now learned of an interesting story produced before the premiere of the series based on the universe of League of Legends. And it is that the Arcane creators revealed Netflix focus groups aren't too fond of the series. That's what creatives Alex Yee and Christian Linke said in a talk on Insomniac Games' Ted Price podcast, and you can see it in full in the video below.
“I remember talking to the Netflix guys, you know, when you do your focus groups. We had that so weird on the one hand. The normal thing in these focus groups is that the results you get are quite precise regarding what you can expect from the reaction in the real world. This time we were a bit disconnected. According to the results of the focus groups, we should have obtained a decent answer, pretty good, by the public. The focus groups stated that the the animation was not too impressivethat it wasn't bad, that they had seen it many times before, and that the characters and plots were very confusing,” Yee and Linke pointed out in that interview.
This is how the first notes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners appear, now available on Netflix
The reality is that Arcane: League of Legends has become the first series in history to win an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Series, in addition to many other prizes. Audience reaction has also been unanimously very positive, so we can conclude that the focus groups chosen by Netflix for this particular series have not been the most successful. Arcane has already confirmed that it will have a Second season which will not happen, at least, until 2023.
