Jordan Peele's film career is just perfect so far. Everyone will have their preferences when ordering 'Let me out!', 'We' and 'No!', but it is clear that, at least, these are three personal, risky bets, with a discursive and aesthetic line in common, and with a commercial hook. 'I', which is now coming to Netflix, may be the least accessible of them all and also the most erratic, but it has plenty to offer thrill seekers.
Like the rest of Peele's films, 'Nosotros' is part of a strong mix of genres that makes it absolutely unpredictable. 'Let me out!' he mixed 'The Twilight Zone' moral tale with contemporary social humor tied to the best sketches of his own 'Key & Peele'. 'Nope!' Was a monster movies traditional spine of a myriad of elements ranging from criticism of social media to a bitter reflection on the role of African Americans in pop culture.
And "We" retains the humor and the inevitable racial commentary, but peppers it with tropes inherited from the films of home invasion so in vogue a few years ago and pure metaphysical horror. Here we will meet a family who will spend a few days in a house on the coast. But the peaceful vacation in the house where the mother grew up will be cut short when a family of strangers who surround the house appear.
Although we' this may not be Peele's best film, its waste of inventiveness puts it at the forefront of the latest genre spectacles. Its resounding aesthetic commitment, its ability to sow concern in the viewer and its combative political position make it a jewel to be claimed.
