Here we are, more than 20 years after the release of the original film by Shrek in 2001, which became the first film to win the Oscar for Best animated filmclapper Monsters Inc.. However, the years pass and audiences around the world are still deeply in love with the green ogre, Princess Fiona, their friends Donkey and Puss in Boots, and their entire subverted fairy tale world.
Apparently, the actor who gives the voice to Shrek in its original dub, Mike Myershe is more than aware of his place Shrek in popular culture and this omnipresence of " Shrek is love, Shrek is lifeshared by his fans, including Al Pacino. In his new comedy series for Netflix, The Pentaverate, the actor of austin powers decided to give a nod to its audience by including a cameo from the owner of this green swamp, a heavy Scottish accent, and his friendship with a talking donkey.

There was a lot of buzz around the show, as Myers looks back on his days as austin powers (O The Love Guru), donning prosthetics to play a total of eight different roles in this show, which focuses on an Illuminati-like underground society that has benevolently shaped world politics since the days of the Black Death. However, what Netflix didn't mention (and what no one expected) is that the creator/star/writer/showrunner is actually playing nine characters, since Shrek appears in episode 4.
In the episode in question, the characters find themselves in the middle of a dangerous mission to expose the Pentavirate to the world, and it leads to undercover Canadian journalist Ken Scarborough (Myers) and elated pikeman Higgins (Richard McCabe) of the Guard of the Liechtenstein, who travel to the European city of Dubrovnik for the annual "Ogre of Dubrovnik". The duo is pursued by Bigfoot, whom the townspeople take for their ogre patron saint. The hairy terrorizes the city of Dubrovnik in the middle of a party and prepares to attack Ken... when suddenly a protective green hand (and oddly familiar) suddenly lands on your chest.
"I've got that, boy," says the portly green with the unmistakable Scottish accent, who after zooming out of the camera, officially reveals himself as Shrek. "I am the real ogre of Dubrovnik", exclaims the ogre of Dreamworks before asking Bigfoot to "Get out of my swamp!" » and fatally headbutts Bigfoot, with the version of Smash-Mouth for “I am a believer” Context.

And so, Mike Myers and Shrek (animated by voice-over dialogue and a man dressed in a theme park costume) walk into their own Multiverse of Madness. According to Myers himself, the idea of bringing the fan-favorite character into the world of The Pentaverate began as "a whimsical, silly idea" that was nurtured by the show's director, Tim Kirkby.

"I just said, 'Wouldn't it be funny if Ken met Shrek?' And Tim said, 'Yeah! We have to get there. It's perfect'” Myers told SYFY WIRE. "So I called DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg and I said, 'Jeffrey, what if Shrek was on the show? And I was like, 'That was easy. Thanks Jeffrey. They sent a guy dressed as Shrek, and it was very surreal. Everybody said 'yes' and I think that's the spirit of the show, everybody said 'yes'. It was great.«
The six episodes of The Pentaverate are now in Streaming on Netflix. As for shrek, both the original film and its acclaimed sequel Shrek 2 are available on several platforms at the same time, whether Netflix, Prime Video or HBO Max, as well as Paramount + in Latin America and Movistar Plus in Spain.
