Just a few months ago, the Google Phone app was spotted cooking up a revamped dial design with Material You Flare. Now the update is officially starting to roll out.
In what appears to be a partially server-side deployment based on Google Phone v78, the new Material You dialer is appearing for users. The change requires you to be part of the Google Phone beta program, but we've seen it in action on both the Android 3 QPR12 beta on Pixel 6 as well as the Android 13 developer preview. so there seems to be no underlying requirement on the android version. The feature is not available on the current stable version of Google Phone, v77.
This new look for the dialer in the Google Phone app adopts more Material You aspects of Android 12. On Pixels, the look of the dialer is almost identical to the pinpad on the lock screen, as we've seen. noted on our first look. during the redesign in February.
This includes a prominent border for each dialer button, in stark contrast to the current design, which has no border around each button. These buttons each have a little animation that's basically identical to what's seen on the Android 12 lock screen, with a touch on the button radiating out to the edges, also showing a slightly different shape with each touch.
At this point, it's unclear whether the redesign also caters to non-Pixel Android devices that use the Google Phone app as a dialer, officially or otherwise.
