Former President Donald Trump appears to be planning to launch a video service in Streaming by subscription, even as his company's flagship product, Truth Social, has so far failed to take off.
Trump Media and Technology Group, led by CEO Devin Nunes, is actively beginning to develop the service. Streaming, and Friday's securities filing details what the company has in store.
While his initial presentation to investors was vague about his entertainment and news plans (photos included Trump presenting a sumo trophy and a boxing match), the S-1 filing brings specificity.
"TMTG+ intends to offer programming including, but not limited to, blue-collar comedy, canceled shows, Trump-specific programming, faith-based programming, family entertainment, programming that adopts the second amendment and news,” the filing reads. “TMTG intends to license, produce and distribute unawakened news, sports and entertainment content through this platform. »
But the record is also somewhat contradictory, saying elsewhere that: "Although similar to Netflix, Disney+ and other current offerings, TMTG intends to produce or acquire entertainment simply for entertainment… TMTG will not censor entertainment creators for TMTG+, nor will it insist that its programming pushes a particular political ideology.
However, in another section of the filing, the company states that "TMTG+ will provide a platform for conservative and/or libertarian views, and otherwise content canceled from other television and/or Streaming digital,” suggesting that ideology may be a factor. in programming, it picks up.
Along with details about its video projects, the company says it also plans to launch and market a podcast network.
The S-1 also details a licensing agreement with Trump that could allow him to appear in paid programs for other outlets, or otherwise force TMTG to pay him handsomely.
“If President Trump receives a GENUINE offer to be featured on any video production in Streaming non-TMTG or on any non-TMTG podcast platform, TMTG has the right to create a substantially similar video or podcast production opportunity on more favorable terms than those offered by non-TMTG service providers,” said the company on file.
The careers section of the TMTG website confirms that the service of Streaming is in active development, with two New York-based open job postings linked to it.
The jobs are for a Content Acquisition Manager and a Content Development Manager, with each job initially displaying a salary range of up to $220 (at the time of writing, the salary range had been removed). The jobs would see staff members acquiring outside productions or developing programs in-house.
The service of Streaming, which calls itself TMTG+ in investor presentations and filings, has garnered less attention than Truth Social, the Twitter clone that is the cornerstone of TMTG's operations, but it was also announced the last year when the company announced plans to go public via a SPAC merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp.
The final product, assuming it hits the market, probably won't be called TMTG+. TMTG appears to have acquired the TrumpPlus.com domain and TruthPlus trademark, which might be a logical option.
TMTG has serious ambitions in the Streaming. According to a November 2021 investor presentation, the company released projections suggesting the service could have 40 million subscribers by 2026. However, that number looks ambitious compared to the rest of the landscape. Streaming.
“TMTG+ could offer a price closer to that of Netflix ($11,73/month) given President Trump's very enthusiastic base,” the presentation said.
But the service is recovering at an uncertain time for the parent company. SPAC Digital World Acquisition Corp. holds over $XNUMX billion that will be used to fund TMTG once the merger is complete, but DWAC has yet to complete all of the steps to move the deal forward. However, the latest filing suggests the merger could be imminent.
At the same time, both companies are under investigation by federal regulators.
Meanwhile, Truth Social has been officially launched, but doesn't seem to be catching on with users.
And given the current difficulties of video in Streaming, with high churn and significant competition, a Trump-branded option is far from a safe bet.
