First drop in subscriptions for ten years, stock market setbacks and now the lowest rated series on IMDb: things are not going well for Netflix this week! There's probably more behind the lousy odds...
Netflix
After Netflix not only had to announce that in the last quarter (January to March) for the first time in ten years it had seen a drop in the number of subscriptions (namely by 200), but also with a in the coming quarter (April expected another drop of two million more subscriptions, Netflix stock took a nose dive in the stock market and lost more than a quarter of its value in a matter of hours…the triumphant advance of the giant of Streaming, which was considered unstoppable for a long time, has a very powerful for the first time has faded.
It kinda fits the dark vibe that a new Netflix original series reached an all-time low rating on the Internet platform IMDb just one day after the release of the eight episodes of the first season: The Japanese manga adaptation "He's Expecting" currently has an average rating of 1,0 stars out of 10 after 442 reviews. For comparison: the top 100 worst movies of all time is currently parody disaster “Disaster Movie” – and even that still has a 2,1 star rating out of 10.
But of course, you still have to look very carefully at these rating anomalies – after all, it's almost impossible to get a 1,0 rating on IMDb “naturally”. You could literally film a freshly painted wall while the paint is drying and you'll probably still get a (much) better cut.
So there's a lot to be said for a campaign (from review to bombshell) against the series – and in fact, early user reviews, all of which speak to the premise of the series, all have 1 star as their rating, while later reviews, which also come from users who have actually seen the series, have a significantly higher rating rating Having ratings between 7 and 10 stars.
The real problem behind the ratings
But where is the problem ? "He's Ecpecting" is about a pregnant man - and many 1-star reviews revolve entirely around the biological impossibility of this premise and the LGBTQ+ message it is meant to convey.
Well, Hollywood has seen a movie like this before – and we wouldn't exactly say that Ivan Reitman's 'Junior' comedy starring 'Twins' duo Arnold Schwarzenegger (as a pregnant researcher) and Danny DeVito (as a as long as… his partner laboratory) would have become a pioneer of queer cinema since its theatrical release in 1994…
The 18+ movie that Netflix has been hiding for years looks like a “nightmare”
