The band performed for more than two hours at a tightly organized event at a private mansion near the Coachella site with a faux lake and beach where guests could take boat rides. They played many songs from their 17-track album, released on Friday.
The DJ set was Spotify's first artist livestream since announcing on Tuesday that it was renaming Spotify Greenroom, which launched in 2021, as Spotify Live. Fans in select markets were able to tune in to the stream via the Swedish House Mafia artist page. There will be no replay of the set, representatives at the scene said Billboard.
In a press release last week, the streamer announced that it would be highlighting the launch of Spotify Live with "exclusive, one-of-a-kind programming." The company said Spotify Live can now be found on Spotify as a live streaming feature where listeners can tune in to live programming on Spotify through a creator's podcast or artist page. And if they want to join in the chat or join the host on stage, they can head to a separate Spotify Live app.
Spotify says it makes live audio in the Spotify app available to "select original programming". Indie creators who want to go live can still do so in the Spotify Live app.
A first Spotify livestream featuring the Swedish House Mafia had been in the works since early last year. A source familiar with the matter said Billboard last summer that the band had planned to launch their album with a livestream from Stockholm. The album, which was due out last fall, also features The Weeknd, Ty Dolla $ign, A$AP Rocky and Sting.
The Swedish House Mafia are set to close the Coachella stage on Sunday with The Weeknd, who replaced Kanye West as the headliner. Axwell teased that the performance will feature "new and old" music from the trio.
