European Commission calls regulation homophobic and says 'it's a shame'
The media regulatory authority Hungary has determined that the digital platform Netflix has violated one of its lawscontroversial because considered homophobic, during the broadcast of the kiss of two girls who love each other in the animated series 'Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous'.
The opinion of the National Authority for Media and Information Services (NMHH) came to this conclusion after analyzing a citizen's complaint against an episode of this series for showing the love of two (fictitious) people of the same sex.
Approved last year amid a controversy that crossed the borders of Hungary, the so-called “defence of minors” law prohibits speaking or presenting homosexuality in programs intended for minors.
"The investigation concluded that this scene (the kissing scene) and the depiction of creatures who sow terror, who persecute the characters, could be detrimental to the development of the personality of children," he said.
The NMHH, while acknowledging that it has no authority over Netflix as it is an overseas (Netherlands) registered company, argued that inform the Dutch authorities so that they can investigate the complaint.
According to the Hungarian authority, the program could only have been broadcast with the warning that it is not suitable for children under the age of twelve, she adds.

Last year, Parliament approved, thanks to the votes of the ruling Fidesz of the Prime Minister, the ultra-nationalist Viktor Orbán, a law that links homosexuality to pedophilia and prohibits talking about homosexuality and changing sex to minors, whether in schools or in the media dedicated to minors.
For the European Commission, this law, described as homophobic, is “a disgrace”.
