Romantic, heartwarming, exciting and of course LGBTQ+, that's what the new Netflix series 'Heartstopper' is all about. The graphic novel was written by Alice Oseman and the first volume of the graphic novel series was released on January 12. Four more volumes followed. On April 14, the official series trailer appeared on YouTube, which racked up over a million views after a few hours.
On April 22, the time had finally come and the first season was released on Netflix. After a few days, "Heartstopper" was in the German and American Netflix top ten. The series has also received a lot of hype from viewers and fans on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. Director Euro Lyn, writer Alice Osman and the entire cast thanked fans for the great support and for the very positive reception of the series.
Little Known Actor in Lead Role
The series is about coming out, love, homophobia/transphobia, mental insecurity and bullying. The main role of the series, Charlie Spring, is played by the still little known actor Joe Locke. He says himself that he felt very comfortable in his role as Charlie because they share the same interests and personality traits. Actor Kit Conner, also known for his starring role as Joe in the movie Little Joe, also stars Nick Nelson.
Although the second season of “Heartstopper” has not been officially announced yet, it is likely that there will be one as the first season has been so well received by viewers.
