In its latest edition of Light up newsletter, BloombergMark Gurman of provides more details on iOS 16 and watchOS 9, which he calls "major upgrades". This is the first time Gurman has reported on upcoming operating systems after Apple announced that the WWDC 2022 keynote is set to take place on June 6.
Starting with iOS 16, the Bloomberg reporter says he's looking for a "pretty big improvement across the board, including updated notifications and new health-tracking features."
Speaking of an overhaul, Gurman doesn't think Apple will bring an "end-to-end overhaul to the iOS interface, even though it hasn't changed much since iOS 7."
One interesting tidbit is a possible new iPadOS multitasking interface. With iPadOS 15, Apple made it easier for users to take advantage of multitasking capabilities, but not in the way business users expected. Perhaps iPadOS 16 could finally change that.
Along with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, Gurman says the Apple Watch "could get some major activity and health tracking upgrades." Earlier, the reporter said it will be a great year for the Apple Watch lineup, with three new watches to be unveiled later this year, as you can read more about here.
Last but not least, Gurman doubles down that Apple is unlikely to announce anything about its mixed reality headset, although iOS 16 should be full of them. He writes:
As far as I know, a full introduction of the mixed reality headset is still probably out of the question in June, but I'm told that betas of iOS 16 - codenamed Sydney - are full of references to the headset and its interactions with the Iphone.
This indicates that the headset will launch during the iOS 16 cycle, which kicks off in June and lasts until iOS 17 arrives in fall 2023. But it may also suggest that Apple may be previewing some of its upcoming software. of augmented and virtual reality earlier. . Maybe we could even take a look at the headset's rOS, short for reality operating system.
