Is it time to stop cutting the cord?
At the start of our media renaissance in Streaming, our options were quite simple: Netflix, Hulu, maybe YouTube. Our goals were simple: escape the rising costs of paying for cable TV.
Today, it feels like we have a million options: HBO Max, Discovery+, Peacock, and Disney+, to name a few. That's not counting over-the-air TV services aiming to completely replace cable, including Sling TV and YouTube TV.
A 2021 video trends report from TiVo found that the average viewer in North America subscribed to nine video services. Streaming different in the second quarter of 2021, more than double the number of 2016.
An abundance of subscriptions to Streaming means we pay more money to get our TV and movie fixes, and that dream of saving money by cutting the cord becomes harder to achieve.

What are my distribution options?
The good news is that you have plenty of choices. Here are some of the more well-known services and their cost:
Netflix
The basic plan is $9,99 per month, but only one person can watch at a time. The standard plan is $15,49, which allows up to two people to watch at the same time and adds high definition support. The $19,99 Premium plan lets four people watch simultaneously and adds Ultra HD support. And Netflix said it was exploring a cheaper plan with ads.
Hulu
Their standard plan with ads is $6,99 per month, while an ad-free version (a handful of shows still include ads) costs $12,99 per month. They also have multiple bundles. For example, you can subscribe to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $13,99 per month. They also have more expensive plans that include Hulu Live TV starting at $69,99 per month.
Amazon Video
If you're already subscribed to Amazon Prime ($15 per month, $139 per year) for free shipping, you get it as a bonus. Otherwise, it's $8,99 per month.
The story continues
HBO Max
Consumers have two choices: a plan with ads for $9,99 per month or without ads for $14,99 per month. The ad-free plan also includes free downloads and 4K support.
Disney +
Currently, there is a $7,99 per month or $79,99 per year plan. But the entertainment giant said it would introduce a cheaper, ad-supported plan later this year. The company didn't say whether this would affect the price of its current ad-free offering.
Discovery+
It is one of the services of Streaming simplest and most affordable. Consumers have two choices here: the service with ads for $4,99 per month or without ads for $6,99 per month.
Paramount +
There is an Essential plan with ads for $4,99 per month and a Premium plan removing ads for $9,99 per month. You can also pay for both plans annually. The Premium plan also includes the consumer's local live CBS television station.
AppleTV +
Apple also has its own plan, starting at $4,99 per month. The service does not display ads and includes offline downloads. Also, if you buy an Apple device, you can get three months free.
Peacock
The service of Streaming supported by NBC is rare to offer a free plan with ads. There's also a Premium plan for $4,99 per month, which adds live sports and full access to their selection. The $9,99 Plus plan offers all of that ad-free, plus the ability to download movies or TV shows.
What about live TV?
If you want a more direct alternative to cable, there are also several choices for live TV, including the aforementioned Hulu Live TV service.
YouTube television
There's a plan starting at $64,99 per month, and it gets more expensive if you want to add channels like HBO or Showtime. You know, just like cable.
Sling TV
If you want a taste of live TV without the higher prices, Sling offers three packages: a sports-focused Orange package for $35 per month, an entertainment-focused Blue package for $35 per month, or all available channels for $50 per month. .
Philo
The best way to describe Philo is cable without any sports channels. You get 60 live channels for $25 per month.
FuboTV
If you're really into live sports, there's FuboTV, which starts at $69,99 per month for its Pro package with 115 channels or an Elite package with over 170 channels for $79,99.
Streaming : with or without advertising?
The obvious advantage of choosing a plan that has ads is the price. Generally, plans with ads are cheaper than plans without ads.
However, some of these ads can be very annoying. A survey conducted last September by Morning Consult found that 69% of American adults believed that ads on services Streaming were too repetitive, while 64% felt they were intrusive.
A good example: I subscribe to the premium plan of Peacock. The programs include several ad breaks, but you even get ads when you pause your show.
How to cut your budget Streaming
If your library Streaming has become overwhelming and expensive, here are some tips to reduce your expenses.
Determine what you really want to watch. There are several broken apps where TV shows and movies are streamed. Let them guide you to discover where your favorite content is. This can really help you determine which services matter most.
Study your habits Streaming. Do you see this application icon of Streaming on your phone or media player and realize you haven't used it in a while? Maybe it's time to move on.
Remember these four words. “Cancel anytime. Is there a show you really want to binge, but don't want the long term commitment? Sign up for a month, get rid of visual itch, then cut ties.
Look for packages and deals where you can. Hulu packages are a good example of receiving multiple services from Streaming for one price, which can help you save money. Meanwhile, wireless carriers offer some services as part of a plan. For example, AT&T offers unlimited plans that include HBO Max. Some Verizon plans include Hulu and Disney+ for free. Meanwhile, some T-Mobile plans include Netflix for free.
